Should illegal workers have the right to unionize?

The courts say yes

An employer says no

If workers are being abused what does it matter whether they are legal immigrants or not?

Another reason why appointments to the Supreme Court in the next administration are very important.

What do you think?

Since when does an employer decide who can and can not unionize?

I also believe that no matter if workers are being abused or not, they should be able to unionize to have proper representation. The problem is this, a union can not fail to represent certain workers based on their immigration status and represent others because they are of a legal status. The teachers union here in Indiana still represent non members because the union can not afford to have the administration take advantage of those teachers..

Isn't it federal law that requires a union to represent all workers whether they are members or not? I believe that is the law in right to work states?

There were court cases where non members objected to having to pay dues even if they were non members. They lost because courts ruled that the union must represent them if fired

Indiana is an At-Will state so the experience that I have with ISTA/NEA and the Teamsters are under those conditions.

Because Unions in certain areas of this state are looked down upon, a lot of teachers do not join the union, yet reap financial benefits and legal protections from the union with out paying one dime in union dues. It is a source of contention with my wife's family since a bunch of them don't see the need to join the union yet get something out of it. Don't worry my side is heavily unionized. bud

True, but the two are unrelated to each other.

I don't think criminals get to unionize.

Ask Nancy Pelosi. She seems to have done a wonderful job not allowing the vineyard she owns to be hamstrung by Union workers unlike the others.

Based on what the Great Telco posted and the way the word ILLEGAL is listed prominatly in the question then how is it not related to this thread? Illegals do not have the same rights as US citizens in this country so I don't understand how it is even possible for them to unionize in order to force job change via employers who hire them.........Well.........Maybe this is not so bad as it will give those employers an incentive to fire all their azzes and hire US citizens instead. Then again I had rather see legislation enforced to penalize employers of illegal aliens,
