First impressions with my QX50: ways to improve next version

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

After having the new to us 2015 QX 50 with premium, navigation and technology for about a week now, some changes that would make the next version much more appealing in my opinion would be:

>power tailgate (surprising that a 2015 luxury vehicle doesn't have this standard)
>sport/economy option for the powertrain ( this works brilliantly in BMW's)
>the side mirrors are too large; makes for a large blindspot
>rain sensing wipers
>more presets for the sound system
>more customization for the LCD dash display (I enjoy seeing the fuel mileage and outside temperature at the same time on the CRV; I know, put the fuel mileage it on the NAV display....)
>not having to reset the mileage/maintenance on both LCD and Navigation displays; why is there more than one?
>roof rack is not the best looking; is there an option to remove these?
>better fuel mileage would be nice
and>better oem tires than the Turanza EL42's; these were not very good tires, most oem are terrible I know...

We are loving the vehicle so far (it is actually my wifes), but this wishlist would make a great vehicle even better. Again this is my personal opinion compared to some of the competition. Anything else I have missed?

I agree with much of your wish list!

>power tailgate - I bet the next version will have it, but really, the 2015 is still the guts of the 2008.
>sport/economy option for the powertrain - YES - great in the mercedes too so that leads me to believe the 2017s should have it as an option
>the side mirrors are too large; makes for a large blindspot - AMEN! When I look at my son's TSX mirrors with the turn signal indicators also, I sure wonder why mine are so YUGE
>rain sensing wipers - not sure I care about this. what's rain??
>more customization for the LCD dash display - Yep.. it is 2016 for crying out loud!
>roof rack is not the best looking - One thing I don't agree with. I think it looks so much better with the rails and cross bars
>better fuel mileage would be nice - I am 'ok' with the mileage of my 3.5 RWD (19-25) and expect the next engine models to be much different like most cars today

Add to your list:
more little storage compartments
paddle shifters
sporty pedals (I installed some already)
better cupholders and better spot for them

2016 QX50 checking in.

>They didn't add power to the lift-back. (not a concern to me) Cool power up/down for the rear seats, which I use often.
>Has sport or normal mode to transmission (no eco mode)
>No rain sensing wipers. (not a concern to me)
>Same (old) software on the nav screen and audio system. (it works, and I guess I should be watching the road anyway) Bluetooth is a bit outdated, but works most of the time with my iPhone 6s.
>I agree with XIS on the roof rack, but to each their own.
>Tires are Continental (not sure model, but good performance out of them).
>Bad news: fuel economy for mixed driving is closer to 16.5 MPG (3.7 AWD) - the onboard computer lies. It exaggerates by 2+ MPGs. (major concern)

All things considered, I really like the car. it is super comfortable and quiet to drive and has tons of power.

I would add one thing to your wish list:
>Give us some towing options please! There's more than enough power to haul a trailer!

>power tailgate: I agree. I had this on my RX and I miss it.
>sport/economy option for the powertrain: Our cars do have a sport mode...just no eco mode. I am ok with this though as I can't stand the way cars drive in eco mode.
>the side mirrors are too large: I disagree...The large mirror helps with the blind spots. Unless, you mean that they create blind spots to the front, in which case I would say to raise the seat height.
>rain sensing wipers: I don't need these in the dessert...but I loved having them on my X3 and RX when I lived in Portland. I also added aftermarket rain sensors to my Prius when I lived in Portland and they worked well...You may want to try those out.
>more presets for the sound system: There are 18 presets which is way more than enough for me. However, I wish you didn't have to select ABC and you could just scroll through them all like on Lexus.
>more customization for the LCD dash display: I am guessing they will have this on the new ones since all the other models are either getting or already have full color displays.
>not having to reset the mileage/maintenance on both LCD and Navigation display: I agree...This rubs my OCD personality the wrong way sooo bad!
>roof rack is not the best looking: I actually like the roof rack. Especially with the crossbars on. But if you don't like it, you can remove it.
>better fuel mileage would be nice: Wouldn't it always be nice?
and>better oem tires than the Turanza EL42's: No opinion...I always just replace everything with Michelin anyhow.
