Another thing is while at the gun store, don't really let him handle the gun too much. The store will deny you sale of the gun on account of they would suspect what they call a "straw purchase". That's when someone ineligible to purchase a firearm for legal reasons gets someone to buy them one. It's most common when a man gets in legal trouble and his wife buys him a gun. Just giving you a heads-up on that. Make sure you get the store owner to explain everything to YOU, not your fiance. Make it obvious that YOU are buying the gun for YOU.

That's a really good point. I hadn't heard of straw purchases before, but I'm sure people that won't pass the background checks to purchase firearms try to get them one way or another. I hate when people try to talk over my head, so the store owner will most definitely be talking to me I want to learn anything I can anyway.

That's the gun from Josey Wales, isn't it? My dad has a replica of that sitting somewhere in the house. He bought it in his teenage years, because of that movie.

that pistol is what I do believe Colt called the "Lightning" because of it's double action design.

Like already posted, go try out different guns at a store first. For a basic, affordable, RELIABLE semi-auto, I would select a Glock. I don't own one now but I have. I prefer the HK USP.40 the best. I would never own a hi point.
