A tad over 142 with no JWT. Steering kept me from pushing higher.

According to magazine tests, the original 1990 Q45 was drag-limited to 149mph. The speedometer may read higher, but the accuracy of the gauge is questionable at that speed.

what is the stock q ecu speed limit?on a z32tt it is 155.when you hit it,your speedo is almost at 160.(my when stock 1991 tt,speedo 3-4 tics off,obviously.)300hp(stock) in a 3400(+-)lb z32tt with 3.69 gearing is 165,no limiter,everything else stock. 450zxttblah,blah,blah,vh45,blah,power,yeah,yeah,baby.

I have stuck it at 155 a few times with the stock ecu and a bit beyond with the JWT and the JUN ecu, however accuracy of the speedo has to be off at that point.

i took it to 135-140.. i stopped.. it didn't.. done it a couple times... not really over that.. but it feels like it'd do more.. although i believe its 155 limited as most lux cars come...

One of my best friends and i were cracking up at the reaction of the 3 passengers in my back seat when i pulled it right up to 135 with 5 people and some luggage in the car.. This was the car.. .__________| || ... |------------

Redline [6900] in 3rd gear is 141-144 mph depending on actual tire loaded radius [plus how much the tires grow at speed]. With JWT ecu [7300 rpm in 3rd] =150-155 mph.

The 0.694 [overdrive 4th gear] loses 30% acceleration .......155 mph ~~= 5,200 rpm plus TC slip. 22-30 [exhaust] more JWT HP doesn't help much something like 3-4 mph.

The Q is something else...

It does reach 130 quite easily one time I almost hit 140. Mind you this is a car with two bad injectors a bad knock sensor and probably bad plugs. Cant wait to see how it responds with the above changes plus a few "minor" mods.

go to the bottom of the web link page and play a video or two....you will see where the speedo & rpms are in relation to 140mph. I think mid 150's is no problem....possibly 160 with my mods. I have had it up to 150 twice solidly cruising for a second or two and the car was amazing. I did not have the JWT TCU installed so my shifts are at the stock points....135 is 3-4 shift. Video is a little blurry but I plan on doing some more high speed run video after I get better tires.

i been up to 130 with myself and two other people and all windows open before i let up. still had a lot more pull so i'm thinking 150+ wouldn't be a problem.

Hmmm....sounds like a worthy challenge to see how fast the Q really is at 150+mph. I promise to do it as soon as I get some better (higher speed rated) tires on the car. Don't want to risk total destruction on a tire only rated at 135mph. My car is still pulling very nicely past 150mph when I did the one or two runs....

When my car was stock the most I think I had it up to was about 120mph as it took way to long for a comfort zone without cops or traffic to reach that speed, but now with my mods I see 125mph on a very regular weekly basis.

Here in Arizona we may not have too many trees, but we do have lots of rural roads with very long, very straight stretches where it is both feasible and safe to cruise at high (120 mph) speeds. I've seen 135 with my 92, but not for long because of H rated tires. 140+ would would be easy the way it is still pulling.

The real kick has been seeing the grin on my wife's face when she took it up to 125 with me in passenger seat.

The pic was taken at a Big Mac break in the middle of a "let's take this thing out and drive it like it was meant to be driven" day.

thank you.definately handle your tire issue,as you mentioned.i figured the q would pull further on,it appears those german sedans,(of similar pedigree)are.450zxtt

There is a definite difference in top speed limit(ers) between Japanes Gentlemen and German Engineers. The MBZ standard was that each and every component in th edrive train had to be capable of unlimited duration maximum speed operation under normal atmospheric conditions. They even run extensive temperature surveys of the fluids and components at max speed at very high ambient temps (and publish in European Owner Manuals) the expected coolant temp vs speed and outside air temp. For instance--the 1990 560 SEL would be expected to approach the 'red line' at 130 MPH and 105F--but would still be 'safely operable' Max engine RPM is often set by auxillaries like alternators or A/C compressors. (accessory durability alone is enough to make the Honda 2000S so amazing--it revs to10,000 RPM and nothing comes apart). In other words, the MBZ is designed to 'operate with wide open throttle input -indefinitely.'

I'm not comfortable with saying that about the Q45 maybe just because I don't know. Would the transmission cook? differential? P/S pump? alternator? A/C comp?

I took Layla to 144 on the speedo, in 3rd gear. I didn't want her to shift into 4th at that speed and RPM. I was kinda nervouse about a 10 year old car with 160K miles on the engine, and 55K on the transmission. It slips enough at lower RPM's.

I don't think I could have gotten over 150, even if I had shifted. The tires are "W" rated, but the struts, upper links, and tension rods were original. The car was not completely stable.

I haven't had the chance, since I replaced everything.

On the way to Vegas - comdex, in my car, 1991 Q45A with the previous owner at the wheel - 4 adult males and luggage.

Stillen ECU and TCU - 150 mph on the speedo and I said "aight bro - thats cool - chill .... "

She had more, and was SOLID.

149mph was probably based on rated HP of 278 without JWT and not actual test. I think the limiter was set at 155 mph? Speedo tops out at 160 but should be accurate within a couple percent. 160 with JWT should be possible.

Back in 1992, I drove my 1991 Q45 for an extended period at 145+ mph (as indicated on the speedo.) It pulled to that speed easily without strain!

No problems at all (kept the car for another 6 years after that!). Story is in the Speeding Stories thread.
