ok so im trying to decide what to do with my s14. theres just so much i want to do. so some more info would guide me in the direction that i should go. so im thinking of a budget build maybe like in the 3500 to 50 00 dollar range. i either want to go KA-T or SR or possibly 2jz . but i cant decide. im not really looking for a all out race car. but one that i could drive everyday and still beat the crap outta some honda/dsm garbage!!! you know what im saying. but ive heard its hard to boost the KA if you dont know what your doing. but idk. so yeah lemme know what ya think. email me [email protected]

Go to the KA-T forums and ask them what you can do with about $3500 to $5000. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised...

I'd still rather KA-T if I wanted a relatively inexpensive project though. The VQ30DET is my favorite option, but thats not a cheap or easy choice at this point.

Honestly, I think your best bet would be to find a reputable shop in your area, and have them do an SR swap.

If you're gonna do the work yourself, then of course my biased opinion goes toward an RB series engine.

The sound, the power, the possibility, the heritage...All reasons why I am partial to this motor(and the fact that I own one).

If you are comfortable sourcing parts and maintaining an engine not offered in the US, I say go for an RB. It's a fun experience.

If this is your only means of transportation, I would turbo the Ka. Being able to go to your local automotive parts store when you break down is a plus.

how reliable is an rb20?i have heard mixed opinionssome say its well worth it,some say they are pointless.

people tend to make it seem super unreliable with the whole "you're f***ed if something breaks" as if something will happen every other week.

If you're doing it yourself, and it's your first one, SR is the easiest. Not a huge fan of an SR anymore, but it was EASY!

I6 FTW.... The sound, the torque, and reliability. Just a higher cost, and parts sourcing (RB). A 2JZ would be the easiest to get parts for, but it's all a matter of if you're "Brand Loyal" or not. IMO power is power, and 240s are sexy as hell, but never came with power. Put a better powerplant in a beautiful car, and its a win win

If you want easy, do the SR swap. The reason everyone everyone does them is cos they're so easy. If you're worried about wiring it, just hit up wiringspecialties.com and they'll do the wiring for you. Parts aren't too hard to get, depending on what you will need. Plus there is a HUGE aftermarket for the SR20det, so parts are everywhere. And you will definitely beat the crap out of most any honda/dsm. I love my SR.

only problem with a jz motor is... $$$$$but i'd love to have one a friend of mine as an sc300 with a 1jz, appparently 7m parts can be used with it.

i've heard an rb20 is fairly cheap though (at least compared to other rb motors)

Ka-t and inexpensive shouldnt be in the same sentence. If done right it can be expensive, the cheap kats that you always hear go ka boom.

Im in the whole about somewhere around 4gs, and im still looking at getting a nistune . I could have got an sr but i like the torque of the ka.
