IMHO - Go with the SL. I bought the S to stay within budget. However, for a few more bucks (you will spend more money trying to get a few of the many upgrades that come with the SL) - you will be way ahead of the game.

I ordered a S w/ ABS and a few other things I wanted and they sold me an SL at the S price. In other words go in and ask for an SL and offer to pay the S price and you should get it...

GO for it all.....SL with Tech Package and Sport package!

Go big or go home.........

Or do like I did....... spend the money on accessories!

i would recommend you to go to a dealer and sit inside of one with all the options, decide which ones you want or you need in a car, and then see what is your best option, S adding all those options, or SL with extra ones or SL with just the ones you want!!!

Thats what I did!... ended out getting an S since I like DVD player, my own rims, HID lights, almost everything personalized!..

Depends of you, but again, the best thing to do, go see both and check best price with accesories you want!

The best deal, SL + CVT + Technology package

If you like manaul, go with that, but you will love the CVT since it does feels like a real transmission, not a elastic band + pully

I got the SL for the extra goodies and the main thing, the CVT transmission. It's nice.

Continuous Variable Transmission...Essentially it means that your transmission is constantly shifting/adjusting to your driving. You'll also never feel your car shift into a gear as you would with a traditional automatic or manual.

Shop for insurance first

Go for the most safety features you can afford (abs)

Don't bother with any dealer add-ons like rustproofing or extended warranty less it gets wrecked or you fall out of luv with car and want to move on. These won't add to trade-in value.

Excellent advice by Slither. Talk to your insurance agent first.

The issues that sold me on the Versa was the safety features like side air bags and active head restraints, etc., that were not available on most competitors unless you spent 5 or 6 thousand more.

Also, the ABS option was only $250. Test data shows the ABS equipped Versa has significantly shorter stopping distances than non ABS equipped V's. Well worth $250 for a huge improvement on this important area of performance.

Research the invoice versus retail price on edmunds or kbb for the car and options. This is the only way you will know if you are getting a "good deal".

The S serves my needs just fine. Inexpensive transportation for my daughters (new drivers) to drive. Add the ABS ($250) and power package ($700) and you have a well equipped car. (2007 prices).

But you will have to live with it for years to come. Buy what you need.

I went to the lot with the intention of getting a manual S model. I told the salesperson this as well. Drove the S...nice car.

Just for kicks, I went over and sat in an SL. I then asked for a drive in this car. Came back from the drive and said "I'll take it."

When I went to the dealer, there was no way I was buying an SL. hehe Or so I thought...

Ditto what Bubs said, except I drove the SL first, waited until they had an S for me to look at (didn't even want to drive it, then!), and then they had to order in an SL in the color I wanted.
