Ive been driving for a number of years but have never had my own car, well last week I went and got myself a brand new 08 Versa, and after one week Ive decided that I love this thing. Tons of space in the trunk for my tools, really spacious inside, and very comfortable. The only thing Im not crazy about is the gas mileage, which I havent found to be spectacular. On the tank the dealership gave me, I got 382km all city driving. On my current tank, I have a little less than 1/4 left, and im at 470 with half highway half city driving. Ive heard that mileage goes up after a "break in" period, but as a new car owner, I dont even know what a break in period is, could anyone please elaborate? Thanks guys

Break-in is whatever it takes.

Many of us found that gas mileage improved after the first oil change or two. but I don't know what it'll be like in TO!

Congrats on your purchase. I've put about 24,000km on an 08 HB (SL with CVT) and I found that the mileage improved quite a bit in the first few thousand KM. I can routinely get better than 7L/100km on the highway (I know, not what was promised, but oh well) and never worse than 8.5L/100km with mixed driving.

On a recent road trip, I've gotten up past 600km on a tank before the fuel light has come on. Generally I think there is still 5L or so left when the light comes on (can anyone verify that?).

Cheers

Congratulations on the new buy!

I also love my 08 Versa SL, lot's of room and I love the interior.

The only deception I have is the gas mileage sucking badly.

I'm at 2600km right now and got at best 26 mpg, with granny driving and absolutely NO CITY driving. Now that sucks. I always look under the car looking for a puddle of gasoline.

MY 4000lbs 1995 Cutlass Supreme w/3.4L engine got 28-29. I bought the Versa because I needed more fuel economy. (LOL) Should of kept the Oldsmobile I guess.

Will be looking if I do not get AT LEAST 33 mpg after 7500km the car is for sale and will go see Honda dealership(Fit or Civic), to change my 1.8L 122hp gaz guzzler.

Oh yeah, I should kept the window sticker from the dealer, my Versa with CVT trans was written at 47mpg. Not that I was expecting this much but at least 35 mpg.

Sigh.

Don't forget that the Canadian fuel economy is in *imperial* MPG (38/47, or 6L/100km highway/7.5 city, in metric). The American version is rated at 27/33 mpg, which is not that far off from what you are getting. I assume you are quoting your previous mileage in American MPG - I don't even want to know how many conversions you've been doing to keep track of your mileage in MPG...assuming you've been driving in Canada(...i.e. car odometer is in KM, pumps are in Litres).

Maybe it is time to downgrade to a Civic? Oh wait, a Civic sedan auto gets 8.2/5.7....well what about the Fit? Well it does better at 7.8/5.6, but seriously, by the time you trade it in and buy a new car you will have lost more money than you could ever make up in fuel savings.

Just saying......
