Hello everyone, just bought my first car which happens to be a 1991 Nissan 240sx!

One thing I'd like to know is, what are some quality yet not so pricey brakes? It needs new pads but I'd like to do a full brake swap.

Welcome! Nice 240 you have there. Since you have the steelies and hubcaps, I don't think you can do a Z32 300zx swap. I'd put some stock replacements from your local parts store O'reilly's, AutoZone etc. Do the usual maintenance on the car first.

Clearance's are tight with the Stock alloy wheels aka "Escort rims" in the front after doing a 300zx TT brake conversion.
I'm referring to these rims.

I'll get stock replacements then. But I'll be going for 16in new wheels. Any suggestions? Also could you tell me what is the offset and other specs I would want on 16 in wheels for my car?

Welcome! I'd go with a 16x8 wheel with +20ish offset. It will look pretty good with some lowering springs. Good luck!

do an S14 5-lug swap, upgrade to oem s14 brakes, and get some oem S14 wheels. they are 16''. and COILOVERS. not lowering springs. this is not a honda forum.

S14 brakes are the same as s13 brakes.... 5 lug swap isn't necessary.... I'll take my quality shocks and springs over cheap coilovers.... Anyway thats another story for another thread.

You can get coilovers, but you're going to end up spending around $1k for a "decent" set. A lot of people don't care about handling characteristics of the car and just want to be low. If thats what you're into, then you can get cheaper coilovers so you can just adjust your height and look cool.

A couple years ago before XXR and Rota were big, you'd have to go 5-lug to get any good set of wheels. With XXR wheels as cheap as they are now, its definitely not necessary to go 5-lug unless you want OEM nissan wheels (350z, s14, g35, etc) or if the wheels you HAVE to have are 5 lug.

S13s on S14 SE wheels look great, but the 5-lug swap cost is like $500 the last time I added it all together.

yes yes 5 lug is not necessary but when it comes time to buy wheels your options will be endless. and who said cheap coilovers. i spent $3k on mine.

Whoops I edited my post before you replied. If you're going to drop bank on coilovers then its a good plan. But I'm not sure the OP has money to spend like that (just guessing). Eibach and Tein offer lowering springs with good spring rates that give a good drop and keep the car fun

dropping bank on coilovers is what s13 owners do

I'd like something that'll better my handling not just sit low, so I'll be saving up for that.

My budget is ever so changing and I think I'll be doing wheels and tires a little later as well. I need to keep money on the side for any troubles that might pop up too. But I'll be for sure keeping all of this in mind!

I'd like my mods to be purposeful and not ricey. It's my first car so I'd like to make it last as well. But I really like your thread, glad you're done with drinking! What kind of tail lights do you have there and how did you cover the glovebox? The hairy cloth on it is SOOOO ugly in my car.

stick with tasteful. technically everything we do to our cars is ricey. lol.

-which lights u referring to? i had DMAX tails on my green car and i have 180sx kouki's on my new car

-and i just bought a big sheet of suede from Joann's Fabric and used some extra 3M carpet adhesive i had. i did my speaker covers on the door panels too oh as well as the headliner. i attempted the large part where your arm rests on the door but the suede wouldnt stretch and it always creased and looked like s***.

Yeah I'm going to try to be tasteful as much as possible and go for function over form obviously.

I meant the DMAX ones, I think those look so clean and a bit JDM-like on these cars! 180sx ones are alright but look a bit too old for my taste maybe.

And I'm guessing that's a spray right? I'll start from my glovebox and work my way to other parts. My mom does upholstery for furniture so I'm sure she can help me.

Thanks!

meh i like the 180sx lights. the price tag is like double what i paid for the DMAX's. about the glovebox yeah i tore the old s*** off. sanded off the old glue. sprayed a thin layer of glue on and then kinda rolled it onto the suede.

Clear ones make it look like a new car I think, which I can appreciate.

I just started updating my profile sorry, but I live in Norman, Oklahoma. Not sure how many members would be in Oklahoma honestly...

yeah i feel you on the newer look. i think alot of it has to do with the color of the car and the ugly yellow turn signals on the lights. and im sure there are a few people near you heres a link to the regional section and you can look in your area ----->font-color-red-central-region-font.html

if your gonna throw brakes on it just replace it with the oem pads and like a brembo blank rotor. cross drilled and slotted rotors are cool but they chew up brake pads a lot faster.
