First CA possibly?!

So I'm considering purchasing a JDM silvia w/ a CA in it. Roughly 60,000km on original.

Its pretty stock engine wise and its lowered.

My question is what would be the first things to do in terms of performence mods. Sorry I've been searching but nothing has come up specifically.

These are the things that I've listed I'll consider doing first off.

1. Remove clutch fan, install E-fan2. Upgrade Radiator3. Remove stock air box/plastic piping for FMIC

Now as a upgrade for the turbo itself I was thinking the GT28R internally gated @ 12psi.

Would the stock downpipe fit the GT turbo? I'm assuming it might considering its only slightly bigger and should be the same flange? I was thinking of using the 450 DSM injectors and i'm not sure on management, possibly a AEM wideband w/ a SAFC2? Any other better suggestions?

Also would a front mount w/ the stock T25 be of any benefit? Or would it be a handicap?

I want to put down roughly 250rwhp, do 13's at the track and have it totally streetable.

Does my notion seem pleasible? Lets hear what you guys have to say!

Cooling and FMIC in that order is a good first step. Upgrading the turbo next is fine, but you'll HAVE to do your injectors/wideband/SAFC/MAFS/fuel pump at the same time as that GT28R is going to max out the stock MAFS/injectors/fuel pump very quickly. You might also take a new FPR into consideration as upgraded fuel pumps tend to overrun the stock FPR and make you run too rich.

Also, I highly recommend a ROM tune for those mods and then the SAFC to fine tune it.

You can use the stock o2/downpipe, but you're really choking that turbo. If you're putting on that size of turbo you really should have 3" exhaust from the turbo back. You should actually have that done before you swap turbo's.

If it were my project I'd do it in this order;EfansRadiatorFMICTurbo back exhaustFPRWalbroWidebandSAFCInjectors/MAFS/ROM tuneTurboDyno tune

A FMIC with the stock T25 is not a waste by any means. The stock sidemount is worthless.

I think your goals are basically reasonable, though I don't know if you'll do it at 12psi, but if you follow the path I just laid out, running more boost shouldn't be a problem.

Hey float,

Thanks alot for your replies very informative!

I'm not totally a newbie when it comes to turbo-charging, but I'm not sure what a "ROM" tune would be or where to get that done.

I previously owned a KA-T put down just under 270rwhp. With just the SAFC and a wideband.

Another question, would the ebay manifolds/downpipes be any good? I'm not thinking of getting a turbo from ebay thats for sure... but how about their manifolds, I've heard good and bad?

when he says rom tune, that means a retuned ECCS(aka ECU) to work with the upgraded injectors, MAF and turbo.

the SAFC should only be used to fine tune things, not your primary source for fuel map correction. The majority of the management should be handled by the ECCS through means of a flashed rom.

Unless you are going to beat the hell out of it, you can get away with a high pressure rad cap, fresh coolant, and RedLine Water Wetter. I have seen 300hp+ Nissans with stock plastic endtank radiators.

BUT, I myself have done a full cooling system upgrade (Koyo dual core, oil cooler, Nismo rad cap, 160* thermostat, Zirgo 3000cfm e-fan) before power as reliability is more important that outright power to me.

The stock downpipe for a CA will work for a GT28R. Also, the eBay manifolds seem to work well, but the o2 housings (turbo extension) are apparently very small diameter, so I'd say look elsewhere (I have a ProjectSilvia 3" one myself)

I ran full 3" exhaust, uprated sidemount, pod filter, and wastegate spacers for 8psi for a year with no real drama. The stock sidemount lasted my first summer with it after I added a water sprayer. I did my mods in this order:-Walbro 255lph pump-3" exhaust-Pod filter-Upgraded ARC sidemount-Manual boost controller-Nismo FPR

Next up will be my injectors/ROM tune/MAF/SAFC and a GT28R as well. Currently I have a SR T25G, and at 12psi, my car is hella quick. 250rwhp should be possible on less than 15psi with a GT28R, so you won't need anything nuts to meet that goal.
