So i'm planning on picking up a 93 240sx HB. I seen one the other day and decided that's what i want. To be honest, i'm not exactly sure what i should do with it.. or what the difference is between the HB and the regular one. I'm not really a car person, just getting into them, so i could use alot of help. All i know for sure is i want the SR20DET. I am open to any suggestions. Thanks

Welcome. Before you get ripped a new @$$hole for posting a newbie question, I suggest you do four things. Search this forum, search zilvia.net, do some 240sx searches on google, slap yourself for being stupid.

Also, I would look into the sr20det and other options that are available. Please dont do it just because its JDMTyte Y0

Great way to welcome the kid, now all us twofourty owners are A$$ holes with no patience or mercy for a newbie, calling some one stupid for taking interest in 240sx(naturally he knows whats good) for his first car. now he is going to get some honda cuz you scared him.

Excuse some people on here, we tend to throw the " do some research " card before we remember what it was like being new.

Welcome to the club/group/clan/cliche/nich/religion/addiction called 240ism. haha

But yes a simple good search or better yet Wiki has good facts, best thing you can do is keep reading and force your self to read all you can and it's really easy you just HAVE TO DO IT.

you will quickly learn that 240's are user friendly, fun, versitile, and popular for a reason cars.

oh and sr20's are gay they put out only like 94wsp (wheel squirrel power) and your best off with a jet turbine engine. just kidding btw some people cant sense sarcasim

there is a kid around here in the same situation. completely gutted car with boxes full or parts for sale for pretty much half of what he has into it and all he did was tear it down.

Welcome, dont trip about the flaming its like some peoples version of a crappy welcome to NICO. I know your friend told you to go SR but you should definately consider your other options, SR is a good choice but you the KA have an extra .4L on tap. So some good advice for you is to play around with the car & do little things before you go jumping into a swap! KA-T is a really good option as well and with a little knowledge/some help from us you can have a really fast car w/o going SR.

Yeah, i have been reading on this forum pretty much literrally all day today.. and i've read alot of good things about the ka-t build. I've dont alot of research, and read so many different things. would i be better off going ka-t rather than sr if i'm looking for more power? because i'm trying to get at least 400 whp. But yeah, starting small is a good idea.. i'm just not sure what all i can do to start off. Once i buy the car, i'll prolly start off by completely gutting it, and cleaning everything under the hood. and then start replacing parts. But i'm not sure yet. what do ya think?

hey welcome to nico... 400hp is realy serious what almost no one has said yet is HOW DEEP ARE YOUR POCKETS... when doing a project car and tryin to get HP like that, you better be up on that $$ otherwise its a dream

i dont know what route your gonna take Sr or KA-T with Sr sure you got the turbo inject's and ECU but what EVER site/dealer is gonna tell is that almost nothing has a warrenty and with that said an sr swap could run you deeper then you've ever wanted to go.... SAME with KA-T alot of people JUST decied to start a project car like that but dont realize how expensive it can really get

Also encounter problems i did my first build in my back yard make sure you have all TOOL's and parts if this is your first build there probally gonna be things you need to buy just to do the upgrade and make sure you have another car (just in case) just to get to work/school...

Good Luck

i dont get people who state how much HP they want

hell id be happy if i didnt have rust on my car

that doesnt mean i dont add go fast parts but im not shooting for a number;

i mean do you even know what a 400 whp car feels like? do you really think making a car that was rated for less than 150 into a monster is going to keep it that streetable?

just keep the KA, work on learning how to drive and have fun... worry about power later

You can get 400hp pretty much out of any motor you throw in your car. But you'll want suspension, brakes, and a reliable car before that.

yes i know how a 400 hp car feels like lol... my best friend has a 67' mustang with 600+ hp and it's pretty crazy.. i honestly don't think i can get 400 hp out of it.. it's just something i want... lol i don't even know much about cars as of right now... so i'm sticking to the basics at first... after reading alot... i'm kinda leanin toward the KA-T... but once i get the car.. where is the best place to start? i mean... i think i have it all figured out.. but i really don't.. if ya know what i mean... money honestly isn't an issue, well i got like 12k to spend.. roughly... it's definitely just a project car.. cuz i'm not gonna be able to work on it all the time.

^ you heard the old saying measure twice cut once right? Well with a car build, especially a quick one needs to be well thought out. don't do something just because your friend told you to. If he wants something like that, then let him build his own. Let the car be about you, not everybody else.

400whp out of a 2871r with 550 injectors = impossibleBut good luck proving fluid dynamics wrong. If you want 400whp I would suggest at least a t3 flanged turbo with 650cc+ injectors. Also, once you break the ~350whp mark your going to start breaking axles and possibly transmission'sAlso, z32 MAF's are $100 and there is hardly a need for a Koyo radiator + fans.

Don't listen to anyone, I would just research other peoples builds and mimic them.

this isn't a honda where you starting breaking your driveline at that hp #...

noob...get a book or two or more on internal combustion engines, how turbos work, and just cars in general...you sound like you have no idea what the hell your getting into and are only in here cause your "friend" wants to suck on your balls once you get this thing...

Holy f****** sh** are you kidding me? God forbid that this person has asked our opinions on a engine? Actually help the new people out for a change. Honestly, is this really how just about every new member gets treated when they stroll around here.

So there's 115,000 of us here but how many actually stick around and post and so forth? 200? 300? Maybe i can see why that is.

I normally wouldn't counter argue a post that meaningless and ignorant...but damn. Usually, you would be better off to not say something like that, and maybe just say "welcome." < Is that so hard to do?

Edit: Op, Sr20 is a great motor...but don't come to a conclusion yet, explore your options.

i find error in your logic. maybe you should do your own research before you start misinforming others.

and this is exactly how one would go about being a lemming.

op, do some research, determine what you want for you, and only you, then take the necessary steps to achieve your goals.

Oh i know... some people kids on here :D (sarcasm implied)

As far as the whole 400whp thing. Ka-t can and will do that for you. The guy that owns E-mance has multiple 240sx one being a s13 ka-t with just over 500+ whp. Be he has lost count of all the transmission's he has blown, he went with a 350z trans (bullet proof btw) w/ a adapter plate and no problems since.

and honestly you will hear this one alot, not amount of power is any good if you can't control it. suspension, brakes, wheels/tires and time behind the wheel is what you should invest in first and i know that's not what you want to hear. but TRUST US!!! it's not like we are making it up. I know you wana jump right in there and start beefing up your engine. who doesn't but there are other things to tend to first, you best bet is to make it a solid stock running car, spend some time with it, get to know every inch of it.

Yeah, its all about the ground work, (quakeproof lol) like he said, hell, id rather have a stock ka with coils before I had my cadet with stock suspension.

Plus in our cars the weight ratio to hp is insane. just having my engine, which is a 6psi boost, 1.8l engine, I still break tires loose in 3rd and 4th. With power like that, not even to the level of an sr, its hard to do my local tight curvy courses in grip. Drift, is fine with it, but the level of power is plenty for me.

Id say go test drive a stock ka, and see how you like it first. I started on a n/a porsche 944, about the same as a ka in power, and had my fun with that. You'd be surprised how much power and torque the ka's have.
