So today I was out driving around and made a right hand turn behind this lady and she decide that she wanted to be in the lane I was in and side swiped me. There is too much damage it looks like all of the scratches can be buffed out but there is one dent the kind of worries me where her tire hit. Luckily no one was hurt and there were no tickets issued but my car got the worst damage. Here are the pics...

Here are the ones that worry me. They are right behind the passenger door and it looks like the seem is cracked open.

Just wondering what I should really do. I plan on going to get estimates as soon as I can and luckily we both had the same insurance so hopefully it will be quick. Also when I go to look for a body shop to do the repairs what are somethings that I need to look for and does anyone have an suggestions for body shops around Nashville.

Go for a good body shop. Insurance is paying for it anyway. Not sure who is good around Nashville, but we probably have some members from around there.

Never accept the first few offers the insurance makes because they are usually too low to fix the damage.

Go to the a good body shop, get a quote directly from them and sometimes the good shops will even fax the quote/report directly to your insurance claims department for you. Don't take an offer, if so work through a third party shop that way your money goes untouched, besides the deductible of course.

That's not totalled at all.

The quarter panel

1) Go over fenders, 20mm or so.
2) Bondo it

Its just a car. Yes you love, yes its hurt, yes its ugly. Bring it MACCO. They will do the repair. Get another BLUE EMERALD door, and stick it on. Then repaint the door. Typically through MACCO they give a better deal on repainting the whole car.

Huh you better hope the insurance company is thinking the same thing it not being totaled. A car that is 10+ years old over 100k usually totaled. It is fixable and see how much the car is worth. If the value is less than the quote to fix, it will be totaled.

I don't like hearing that. I just got one quote so far and they said it will be just shy of $2000. Which is only about 1k less than what I paid for it.

I've thought of doing this but I want to do it right and I really don't want to bondo it. I've thought of getting over fenders but won't it look odd with everything else being stock. I've heard mixed reviews about MACCO and their paint jobs. I've seen some that look great and i've seen some that look like crap with in the first month.

If your car is as nice as it looks, you would be better off to buff it out and leave the dents than to have maaco paint it. Have the work done by a reputable shop. If your insurance company wants to total it, just buy it back. Just make sure to keep pictures of the damage in case you ever decide to sell it, so the buyer knows the reason for it being totalled.

That doesn’t look so bad; just do your research and get a few estimates before you decide on a body shop. As part of my policy with AARP-The Hartford, I have First Accident Forgiveness, which means that my first accident will not cause my auto insurance rates to rise. Ask your insurance agent if you are eligible for this too; even a slight increase in insurance premiums can add up to quite a bit in the long run.

That's what one of the body shops said but it looks just like bare metal to me.

So I took my car to the body shop the middle of last week and I'm still waiting. I gave them a call today and they said that they have to get a new door skin because it can't be repaired. I didn't think the door was that bad but I guess it was.

i replaced my whole door when it got caved in 2x. passenger and driver. that's bondo. it sucked the car was hit before.
+1 on that body shop for not salvaging by adding more bondo. it's easier to replace a door than doing body work.

I would have thought the same thing but i'm not paying for any of it so I don't really care that much. Just as long as its done right.
