Once we got the belt covers off we noticed some odds. The old belt had so much play it was possible to take it off without actually removing anything. There was actually so much play when we turned the crank to put it at TDC, the crank would move to take up the slack in the timing belt, and then it would get tight enough to turn the cams.
Second, when we removed the autotensioner we noticed it hadnt been working at all. The autotensioner arm was frozen to the plunger column, it had no movement whatsoever. The idler bearings were 90% frozen and were incredibly difficult to turn by hand, and when you did manage to move it, it felt as if it were filled with rocks.
Third, the underside of the belt when seen in better light had clear cracks in it. Another scary thought.
After completing the 120k his car runs like its brand new. It used to make a lot of odd noises and had a lot of hesitation under throttle. Now its the complete opposite, car is running amazing.
Overall I feel like that belt had maybe one more start on it. I cant believe it actually ran. I'll get some pics of the autotensioner up soon!
Figured I'd share my experience, feel free to share yours! And to those putting off their belts, do it soon! (myself included, mine is now due
