Went to SCO Nights at Firebird Raceway last night, with NICOmom and Rex (Dr. B).

Wasn't planning on running, as we were using the Q as our "booth" for NICO stickers and BRM cards (got to park right in the middle of the midway, w00t). Rex and NICOmom convinced me otherwise.

It's been 15 years since I went through a tech inspection, and after pulling the caps off my new 18's and convincing the inspector the car was a RWD V8 not a FWD V6 (dork), I was off.

Paired up with a really clean Z31 - It's ON, baby.

R/T: .174

60': 2.54

1/8: 10.268

1/4: 15.123

MPH: 94.48

Z31 got the better of me with a 14.55 @ 96.69.

Not bad for a stock drivetrain (except the 4.08 gears) with heavy 18" chrome rims, a trunk full of crap and and a washed-up driver.

NICOmom wants to know if we can get it in the 14's. She's hooked. :D

Sweet times Greg! Looks like the 4.08 really helped when comparing to the high 15sec quarter with the stock diff. I take it you had to finish in 3rd though?

Want to drag for titles [best average out of three just to be fair].

Didn't you get a JWT ecu? I want to see 14.8/96 in a 95Q.

What was speed in the 1/8th......did the 2>3 shift occur just at /during the 1/8th......I calculate your shift time delay at 0.7 seconds?

Next time, better get a double tall latté first! Good run. I wish we had the stock time with the old wheels and differential.

Good run Greg! Next time you should let Stacey drive. You might get a better time that way.

Nice hitman...

Did you shift through the gears manually or did you just leave it in D.....?

Do you think the 4.08 helped the 1/4 mile, what about the JWT.....

Not to speak for Greg, but I don't think he has his JWT ecu yet.

I think I remember him saying he ordered it, but it would take 6+ weeks.. It also took RSI about 6 weeks to get his.

Nice time though.... 14s are right around the corner.

13s are no problem.. I'm calling it..

headers/exhaust4.08JWT ecu/TCUremoval of granny gears or a 90-93ACPT CF driveshaft...Modified TC/faster shifts..

I see no reason why 13s arn't obtainable..

I'd love to. Dennis, can you adjust this (based on altitude and temp)? It was 86 degrees, almost no humidity, and I'm not certain of the altitude...

JWT ECU will be here in 4-6 weeks. I'm actually running an ECU out of a 94 Q, which supposedly shouldn't work for mine (late, late production 95).

73.5 MPH at the 1/8 point.

I think with my old BBS's and all the crap outta the trunk, I'd have come in the very high 14's...

I'm not quite sure what you're getting at here?

Wes - I left it in D, and nailed the throttle on the 3rd yellow - Pretty decent R/T for an old dawg who hasn't been on the track since 1989. :)

Greg, times were nice. Im assuming the track was a little slippery being that you had a mid 2 second 60 foot. I know those Q's should rocket out of the hole with all the torque they have, and your 4.08's. Nice run none the less.

Au contraire - Q's lack off-the-line torque.

I actually didn't notice much wheelspin, as the surface at Firebird is among the best in the nation. Although, it's terribly hard to hear what's going on at the starting line... :(

There's no question, she's gonna see a 14 flat before I'm satisfied. Even if it takes a cylinder full of inert gases and some creative plumbing.

I wouldn't mind figuring out a cheap way to get the 90-93 gears into the Q without going to Level 10. Ideas, anyone?

If it's possible, while the transmission's down getting the valve body mod, I may as well get the higher ratio gears out of the earlier transmission installed. Then again, it might just be cheaper to buy a used 90-93 transmission...

Either way, I want better performance off the line!

Mini.

Perhaps we could work something out. I really want to upgrade my transmission, but don't want to spend $3,000 + when the transmission in the car has probably less then 1,000 miles.

I want to do the full build + tc on the blown one... I want to check out Johns service..

Not to jack the thread...

But you have two transmission's right? One is blown and one is good. What are your plans for both of them, and what is left over when it's all said and done?

It'd be nice to work something out  .

10.268 @ 73.5 mph ~~= 6,300 in 2nd gear [4.083 diff]Probably hadn't started shift sequence yet.

Tell me the track location and I'll get Altitude.........86F is 2.3% alone, say 1333 feet so another 4%.

Just doesn't make sense the 1/8th mile numbers, the zero to 73.5 mph time of 10.268 secs is off the mark..........9.7 secs [assummimg 0-60 of 7.2 then another 2.5 at worst to 73.5.....that would be a 0-60 time of 7.75

Way to go, Greg!

I say your car is already in the 14's. Your 2.5 60' is what killed it. Even if you could shave .2 out of the hole, you would realize huge gains on the top end, like .3+

A .174 r/t is a red light, .500 is perfect. But for test & tune, it makes no difference whatsoever.

Next time, drop the pressure in the rear (of your BBS's :D) & jack up the front to max pressure. I might even two foot it to get the revs up before the light.

I bet the wheels cost .3. :(

Uneeda converter!

I'm calling 14.3's with no ecu, but with the BBS's. a Dragon converter, and a hella hole shot with the trans in 3. Add the ECU and whaddaya think? 14.0's?

Dennis - Firebird Raceway is in Chandler, AZ. Not sure of the altitude there...

Jason - Firebird's tree is set up w/o the .5 built in. So the .172 is really a .672.

Might entertain the purchase of some REALLY cheap 15" rims for race night... Wonder what's REALLY light and REALLY cheap out there? Any ideas? Maybe some Mustang rims?

Tires are no problem, as I'll just go with some used drag slicks in the rear and some hard-compound granny Michelins in front.

Two-footing it is supposedly a bad idea in the Q, but then again, I want to find out for myself.

Looking back, I don't even remember if I really got ALL of the throttle, as I was a tad nervous and didn't remember to use the ball of my foot to get that last little extra out of mashing it into the carpet... :)

You're too kind Hitman. BTW: that ended up being my fastest run of the night. Only made one more pass and the car started pinging in 3rd gear, so I quit for the night. There was partying still to do!

Hey hey!!! There's the guy with the SWEET Z31!!!

You guys don't understand - this is one of the nicest Z's you will EVER see on your life. Clean as hell, and friggin' fast (dammit). I would have liked another run with it, I got matched up with a damn 13-sec. Civic (turd) which basically made me wanna go home. :)

Post up some pics!

Wes - piepans are gonna be too heavy - I'm thinking some cheap aftermarket wagon wheels or some factory Mustang (eww) alloys.
