Us poor old Australian Murano owners have been short-changed with the BlueTooth capabilities in the new 09 model. The version supplied here does not provide for voice activated dialling , nor does it allow full address book transfer/sync. Additionally, the phone search function is very basic; instead of automatically searching for a paired phone, you have to manually select it from the control centre.

This leads me to wonder what BlueTooth functionality is available on the US or European models. If it is more advanced than the Aussie version, do you think it would be possible to perform a firmware upgrade?

In the U.S. version, I can pair up to 5 phones and select any one of them to be primary for outbound calls. If anyone of the phones is in range when a call is received, the Murano will answer.

I do not have 'Full' sync. I can sync one contact at a time in the bluetooth menu. The sync transfers the persons name and 1 phone number. It then asks if I what to add a voice code. This allows me to speak the name of the person. I can then say the persons name when in the phonebook to dial. It is a bit hit and miss so I usualy just search the phonebook manualy.

When you say "search through the phonebook manually" do you have to upload the address list from the phone to the car or can you search through phone directly from the car controls?

I've noticed that the phonebook download is very much phone dependent but on my 2 phones I've been able to upload the entire phonebook at one time.

To answer your question, TheRiddler, it is necessary to upload the phone's contact list to the vehicle first and then search using the vehicle's controls on the uploaded phone book. This also means that any contacts added since the last upload from the phone will not be available on the vehicle unless they are sync'd up again. I personally do not use voice dialing as its possible to navigate and search using the phone interface directly from the steering wheel.
