This is what pisses me off about IE: it doesn't comply to HTML standards. I actually have to modify my code to work with IE because "normal, intuitive code" doesn't format properly in IE. Some friends criticized my code for looking ugly, but I had to change it to look ugly so that IE would render it properly. Damn Microsoft needs to get on the ball.

Anyway, back to the subject, this modification works great. Thanks!

You should impliment a seperate rendering of the page for the different browsers. IE, Netscape, and Firefox.

Use a code that detects the type of browser being used, and then direct the user accordingly. Or, if you don't want to automatically detect their browser type, just promt them for the info.

That's bullcrap, they have HTML standard for a reason. Microsoft should change, not everyone else. Netscape and Firefox are both Mozilla-based so they render fine. It's only IE that causes trouble. I'm also too lazy to write 3x the code. I only want to write it once... especially since I'm not getting paid for it.

Sorry to be so vehement about it, but I think it's really inconvenient to have to stray from standard coding practices to appease the stubborn/lazy bums at Microsoft.

Um... Internet Explorer, Netscape, and Mozilla all adhere to the HTML standard. Now, each browser may render something differently though. Does that mean that the one that renders something different is incorrect? No it does not.

If you started coding on Internet Explorer, and then tried to code on Mozilla, you would think that Mozilla is wrong. And the same thing applies vica-versa.

I'm sorry, but IE does not conform to the HTML coding standard. This is well known. It does not interpret HTML according to the "standard" spec, which Mozilla does adhere to.

"While it is true that our implementation is not fully, 100 percent W3C-compliant, our development investments are driven by our customer requirements and not necessarily by standards," said Greg Sullivan, a lead product manager with the Windows client group.

It's just an annoyance.Anyway, I'm leaving for Colorado now, so forgive me if I don't reply to any response to this you may have. I got that from a CNet.com article.

I used to think IE would be ahead of all the other browsers since they have the backing of Microsoft's big pockets but it constantly disappoints me. I recently had to do some image overlays for a site with .png images. all the other browsers handled the .png layers perfectly except IE which i had to use their "special" filter to be able to do the overlays. It might seem like a minor thing to most people but to me those are unnecessary problems considering the fact that IE is the most widely used browser. I love FireFox but i can't do without my Opera
