So I have been a die hard IE fanboi, well, forever. Lately IE has been a huge POS. It has a hard time loading some pages, and java doesn't work so well with IE8. So the newest version of Firefox, is almost no different from using IE8, aside of the fact that pages load faster, and all the pages work.

The only downside is that I like my desktop shortcuts. I am not a fan of the bookmarks. They are functional, and I will grow to use them, but the desktop shortcuts are what I am used to.

Aside of that, it seems like a browser full of win.

Oh, Ad Block Plus kicks a** at getting rid of the "in text" ads that are displayed on NASIOC.

I'm looking forward to FF4 and its individual-process tabs. The best feature of chrome with Firefox's plugin support and superior GUI. I can't stand Chrome's GUI, or I'd probably use it for its efficiency benefits.

yup I hear ya, IE = job security. seriously, you have to try to crash firefox, idk how you stuck with IE so long. Those shortcuts on the desktop will work. just make sure firefox is set as your default web browser or they'll keep opening in IE.

oh yeah and adblock. I'd like to make sex with it b/c I actually forgot what ads look like. I built my friend a new rig and put Firefox on it asap. the ads made it soo slow.

Didn't know that. Awesome.

I hate change. I was so pissed with IE8, that I almost made the switch back then. I have rocked IE8 for this long, and am really tired of the fail and crash that happens a lot, as well as the lack of properly opening web pages. So I installed Firefox a couple of days ago, when I couldn't complete a registration with a company for work.

I was surprised how similar IE8 and Firefox are. The GUI is really similar, and if I could move the refresh button, life would be awesome.

You can move the refresh button, too.

Right-click on the button and hit "customize", then move it. Ignore the window that pops up until you are done, then close it. If you see another option you like in the window, move it from the window to wherever before you close.

I absolutely hate the Firefox and chrome will not allow you to launch an application that you're downloading automatically.

What I mean is that for EXE and ZIP(sometimes) the only option is to save the file. Then open it. I love the fact that IE allows the option to "run" which automatically launches the application when it's finished.

FF2.5 had this ability then they got rid of it

The other thing that sucks, is that the Acrobat 9 pro has a toolbar in IE. It is not compatible with Mozilla. Not that I make PDF's of webpages all the time, but I do it enough so it is a PITA. Looks like I'll have to copy and paste the address into IE, then create the PDF.

Easy enough, and FF works well enough that I can't imagine going back to IE.

Crap, it loads up pages pretty damn fast too.

You guys are lucky. For the past month, I have had nothing but trouble out of Firefox. It crashed on me four or five times in one night. I had had it for several months and loved it but nothing I did would fix it. I finally said to hell with it and downloaded Chrome. It took some getting used to but I really like it. It hasn't crashed on me once and everything loads faster except for the Learned'd. (?)

Yeah, firefox used to crash on me A LOT.

Never on forums, but a lot of random webpages would do it... Which sucks because when I am looking for info I will go down a google page and just open 7-8 new tabs at a time before even looking at them. For a while one of those 8 would inevitably crash me before I even looked at anything.Just kinda stopped doing that though.

Chrome is nice, but seems TOO minimalist. Plus I really like ad block.

Yeah, Chrome has to be "built out" by the user for it to be functional... I'm actually kinda missing some of my FF plugins, especially my SEO stuff.

Hopefully Chrome will catch up.

I haven't had a firefox crash in ages, and I was even running the 3.6 beta for quite a while. It used to crash a lot back in the early 3.x and pre 3.0 days, but it's very rare these days.

I use Safari as my secondary browser. Opera and Chrome annoy me by trying to hard as far as the GUI goes. I just want simple, plain, functional. Shinies and goofy layouts don't help anything.

yeah, its just that (at least when I was trying a while ago) it really hasn't had THAT much built for it.

Hell, they took a LONG time to even allow 3rd mouse button scrolling (not just spinning the wheel), and even when they finally did it sucked.I think on a recent try they had improved that more, but it made no sense for them to wait that long to fix something so fundamental.

I hope it gets there too... but then again I am not too worried about it. Firefox works VERY nicely for me, and is there already. Why worry about using something else?

Still MUCH better then IE

Agreed.

I was having WAY too many crashes with FF, and I like some of the developer-type functionality of Chrome.

It's got a LONG way to go before I really like it, and like I said, I really kinda miss some of my plugins - but the crashing was costing me time, ergo money, so buh-bye FF.

I actually use both depending on the application. However, I do prefer Firefox for most things and use Explorer for the things Firefox won't do the way I like.

I use chrome to.

I download alot of torrents. Currently Chrome requires that I save the torrent and then open it.

Firefox and IE would both give me the option to open the file before I even downloaded it. Is there a way to change this? I hate that extra step

This thread convinced me into downloading firefox on this computer. I had it on my old computer, but not this one. I immediately thought, "HEY I CAN USE FIRENICO AGAIN!". I was disappointed when I went to download and found the latest version of firenico was for 3.5.

I love FF, it don't know what I would do w/o FireNICO. I have Safari, Chrome and IE8 installed also but I never use them. I don't like how you have to build Chrome to fit your needs and Safari is just too hard to get used to. I haven't even used IE8 yet as it came installed on my laptop b/c I have Vista Premium 64bit. Firefox has so many add-ons and plug-ins that you can literally spend days sifting through them all.

If you install Down Them All you'll never have to worry about losing anything that you save to your computer, If you get My Xmarks you can transfer all of your bookmarks in one easy step and it remembers new bookmarks and will transfer them when you use IE again. Plus with the bookmarks in FIrefox you can customize them and give them tags so they are easier to find and most will have a little symbol next to them to make them even easier to fiind.

I used to have a problem with FF crashing my desktop as there is a corrupt file that if you use any MS product you have to reinstall FF every single time, but my desktop is old, running XP, and severely needs to be reformatted. I haven't had any issues on my laptop. As far as crashes go I've only had a couple crashes happen and they were caused to either too many tabs being open or some sites just aren't FF compatible.

Oh and the Private browsing and easier cache/history clean up make it a win for when you don't want to gf or wife knowing that you're looking @ Pron. As far as the Ad- Block goes, I think mine is broken b/c I get ads like crazy.

Bean if you go to the help tab at the top there is a link for IE users that willl take you to this page, http://support.mozilla.com/en-...oduct, makes the transfer over to FF so much easier...

My GF's family's computers all run IE7 and it is like the dark ages whenever I use those computers. Pages take all day to load, opening a new tab takes at least 30 seconds, the interface is old and ugly....ugh I hate IE so much.
