I'm using it now and have to say I'm not a fan. In barebones mode it's alright, but it's not faster than 3.x was and frankly it's like Google Chrome, which I don't like very much. Are any of you using it and if so do you like it? What apps are you running on it?

I used it for a week and un-installed it, mainly because I despise it's existence. It's trying too hard to be Google Chrome, rather than sticking to it's FF roots, FF 3.x was a good browser but a little bloated at times. I had given up on Firefox a few months ago though.

I've actually been using Google Chrome faithfully for about 6 months now, I do web design and it never really give me any issues. Plus the apps integrate much better IMHO and it's a lot less bloated. The only complaints I have about Chrome is that it's missing a couple of the must have Firefox extensions(FireFTP, Downloadthemall) and it has no "Reload Image" option when you right click an image that didn't load. Other than that, it's a good browser but it took me a while for it to grow on me.

Mac version has choppy scrolling. Renders slower than Opera or Safari.

FF is great for forms and database work. I prefer it to all other browsers for that, but Opera is my #1 choice on my Mac, PC, and phone, even with its flaws.

I'm glad you posted this. It has been bugging me to upgrade, but I'm pretty happy with the 3.xx version I'm running now. Now I know to avoid it.

We have used/tried many browsers to test code for stuff we are doing ...

Google Chrome is the clear winner, as far as we are concerned. Fast and clean. :mike

EDIT: This post was made in Firefox 4.0, but I am going back to Chrome to continue further ... :)

I should not have changed it. I like the old FF much better.

I changed to it. It is way faster for me than 3.xx and I like the new style, once I got used to it.

I've been running firefox 4 since it was in early beta. With certain builds I've had weird hanging issues partway into loading pages. But most of the time I have no problems. I like the UI a LOT. I can't stand Chrome's UI, so the browser's excellence in other departments is unhelpful. Since a browser is something I have to interact with, the interface needs to be appealing. Browser benchmarks are always neck-and-neck except IE these days, so a little bit of speed means very little in the grand scheme of things. Firefox feels like home.

i like it. reminds me of chrome, as stated before, except without the problem i had with chrome which was freezing my browser everytime a .gif file came up. the only thing that concerns me at this point, is it seems as if my computer runs hotter... not sure if its coincidence or FF4

Really?

I don't see that in Chrome at all ... no problems with animated gif's. In fact, the OP's avatar animates just fine! :yesnod

Its when you have a page filled with them, like a huge list of emoticons or a thread with several video-excerpted animated gifs. Drives me nuts.

The two browsers are based on Konqueror/Webcore, so they behave the same way.

^ only happens to some people... haven't narrowed down why... but when i used chrome and hit a gif, it would pause for a while... if i hit a page of gifs.... game over....

From a user-experience standpoint, Firefox 3.6 and 4.0 and Opera 10 and 11 stand in a different league than Chrome and Safari. Granted user experience is probably the most subjective aspect of any piece of software.

I'm a pretty big fan of Google, but I really can't stand using chrome. I miss out on pretty fancy Android features because of it, but in the end my brower's a browser and I need it to do browser stuff first and foremost.

Of course, I'm also a nerd and a function-over-form guy when it comes to software, so I prefer a browser that does what I ask rather than a browser that assumes it shouldn't ask.

Honestly I don't like the new tabs and the fact that some of my apps that worked on 3.6 no linger work. Hell I was even able to use FireNICO to point with 3.6 and now I can't. Meh, I have all the browsers except Opera on my PC but only use Firefox. I don't like how the tabs are at the top of the screen (have since moved them back to where they were in 3) and I really don't like that the home page are current screen shots of my 10 most visited sites. Chrome and Safari do the same thing, This is a real inconvenience since Google is on there like 6 times and my Yahoo account is not on there at all even though it's been my home page for like 15 years.

You do realize that all of those complaints are things that can be changed in the settings, right? All except firenico, which is a firenico problem, not a Firefox problem.
