I searched this with no results. I just recently realized that i have a finned head redtop sr20. I know that it means that it was from a 93-94 silvia/180sx but is there anything else at all special about it?

aside from the finned head, I dont think there is anything different about this "special" motor...

Just like redtop and blacktop are not that much different aside from little things that really don't matter.

you can go around telling people you have a finned redtop which is almost a blacktop, then you can be even more JDM tyte.

then there are those blacktop owners who get redtop valve covers in order to sport the mAd t1t3 jDM vt3k hype-R.

it was somebody on this board, although i won't waste my time trying to find it again. i wouldn't doubt it's been done in japan to get the OEM powdercoated red valve cover, too. there are ricers everywhere.

I don't think so

the reason people go for red for integra is because the most sought after b18 motor has red valve cover

however in nissan, the more sought after motor is black in valve cover. I have seen people wanting to buy the black valve cover to replace the red but not the other way around.

hey, i'm just telling you what i saw. it was a guy wanting to trade his black valve cover for a red one. heck, the red looks better, period. it's almost a dead on match for my car's color. heck, if i had a blacktop, i might even want the red since it's almost a perfect match for the color of my car.

Yes, you have later model SR pistons and squirters (well, the GTiR had em too). They will be stamped 54c while earlier redtop ones were not.

what exactly differentiates early from late model pistons and oil squirters?

not saying it never happened. I am just suggesting that it's probably not because of the itr color but more to match the red to the color of his car

i was joking about somebody wanting to have a 240SX Type-R. i've seen worse. i saw a "PT Cruiser GT-S Turbo VTEC Type-S" once. and i've seen a few camaros with "VTEC Tuning" badges. it's sad, really.
