I finally finished my install (red top into '93 S13). I primed the motor, got oil pressure (gauge) & from oil dripping of the turbo oil return when I disconnected it and cranked. Put the spark plugs, CAS, fuel pump fuse back in. Started the car. It ran, RPM shot up to 2000 RPM, then went down and oscillated up down, up down until the engine dies. Disconnected the MAF and it idles smoother at 1500 RPM when cold. Rpm dropped when the engine got hotter to normal temp. Then the engine dies again. Questions:1. I supposedly got an SOHC MAF ('89 or '90 US 240sx), however, I either have a bad/wrong MAF or wrong wiring from the condition above. I did check the part number of the MAF: 22680 53F00 A36-000 G60. This is the same part number as my DOHC MAF from my KA24DE. Are the part number should be the same? Does anybody know the part number for SOHC MAF?2. With MAF disconnected, the engine ran better, it still dies as the machine got up to normal temp (from dash gauge). Why is this happening? I use Turbo XS racing bypass H-34, FMIC, Big 28, battery relocation if that helps. I recirculate the H-34 into the intake rubber. Here is the picture of the motor.... Damn it's too big. How do I get the file size smaller? I took the shots using Canon S30 with the lowest resolution.

What does your AFM look like? Is it a black tube about 3" wide with a big box attached to the side of it? Or is it a silver cast piece with a black box mounted to the side with two screws?

The silver cast piece is the one you want. That is good for KA24E or SR20.

Bud,

I think it's the silver cast piece. Any idea why the SOHC MAF and DOHC MAF have the same Nissan part number? Are they supposed to? Here is the picture of the supposedly SOHC that I got:

Quiksilvia,

I did use the Paint program, hope it'll show this time.

Thanks

Here is how I did the battery relocation stuff. With 250 A fuse in line with 150 A DC circuit breaker. Just to prevent fire, lol.

Just an update, I did verify the MAF part numbers (ebay has them):SOHC: 22680 40F00DOHC: 22680 53F00So I do have another DOHC MAF, that's why it doesn't work.

Did you custom make that gauge holder above the center vents?

I want that gauge holder above the vent.

This is what a KA24E AFM looks like:

The one you have looks like a DE AFM, but I've only seen them with black housings, at least from what I remember, but I may be confusing it with Z32 AFM's.

Yep, that gauge holder looks like the generic version of the one Saleen uses on their Mustangs. While they both serve the same purpose, I do believe the authentic Saleen holder is a little nicer looking. You can order them right from http://www.saleen.com for about $45.

Yup, that gauge pod above the vents is from Autometer mustang pod '95 above. If you want to see it better, go to autometer webpage. I got it from a friend of mine who sold his mustang. I did have to trim it a little bit to fit our kind of flat 240sx dashboard. It's being held up by a double-sided tape right now, so it's not really secure. I have to figure out whether to drill hole or not on the dashboard.

Bud, thanks for the picture. It shows clearly that SOHC MAF is supposed to have 3 pins. I'm pretty sure mine is a DOHC since it has 4 slots for pins although it only has 3 pins.

No, if it has 4 slots, but only 3 pins, then it is an SR AFM.

Bud,

The KA24DE DOHC MAF has 4 slots with only 3 pins (B,C,D), part number 22680 53F00. I believe the SR MAF also has 4 slots with 3 pins, part number 22680 52F00 (from SRTECH page) The KA24E SOHC MAF has 3 slots with 3 pins, part number 22680 40F00 (from ebay pictures)

I can see why you thought if it's 4 slots with 3 pins then it's SR MAF since you have an '89 or '90 240sx, don't you? Mine's is a '93.

Anyway, just got an email from Jeff (HT), he already sent me an SOHC MAF and the tag for sending the DOHC MAF back. HT guys rocks!!! Two thumbs up for them!

Whoa, you read the whole thread and you were able to conclude that? What other information can you give us?

They are only interchangeable if you have the correct plugs or you can ghetto rig it, but yes, they are more or less interchangable.

Thanks. The fact that SR and KAE AFM's are interchangable is only on every SR20 FAQ across the whole internet, and plus it was reiterated in this thread, and probably 100 other threads on NICO so far. This thread wasn't about which AFM's would interchange, otherwise the first 3 posts (including one by you, i'm sure) would have been yelling at him to search.

I'm glad at least two of you managed to maintain a level of maturity, by not using foul language. Seriously, QS, you need to check the attitude at the door, and drop the profanity, immediately.
