I would guess take the carpet covering on the inside of the trunk lid off and you should see the bolts for it.

Don't you love our 1/2 A$$ service manual??

Since the part is plastic, I'm guessing it is held by push in clips that are made onto the trim piece. More than likely have to remove inner carpet and release the clips from the inside and push them out.

Actually I did the same stupid mistake as you! I thought it was for an 06' & up too.

I couldn't find that trim piece install for our year M's. We do have it. Either way, the service manual is not thorough.

The one above is for the more exclusive Y34

below is for the 06 and up, and just posting it for M4T5 - the FSM's aren't meant for the everyday person. they are written for factory trained technitions most of which actually take a short class on how to find information within the service manuals.

Luckily, I've been a nissan tech and specialize in nissan performance for the last oh, 10-12years

It's the one up at the top of this forum, you aren't using a "Hayne's" manual are you? The one you can get at the local auto parts store?

We call those "Hayne's her way" manuals - lol

No...I was looking through the one posted on the website. It must be under a diff sub category I wasn't looking in.Is there a better tech service manual available from Infiniti??I seriously find it to be lacking in details.

Probably. Not always easy to find information in the multiple thousands of pages there.

As far as I know, this is the one that they use at the Dealerships too. If anyone knows differently, please let me know and I will do some research.

Where is it lacking? I find everything I could ever need in it and it has very detailed instructions. Keep in mind this manual isn't going to hold your hand or wipe your butt. You have to have some degree of mechanical know how before attempting 90% of the stuff in this book.

It is called the Factory Service Manual (FSM) for Factory Trained Technitions. It will leave out some elementary steps for the layperson. Mybe you should see if they have a Haynes manual because they are better for the DIY at Home types that just use it for oil changes and stuff.

Your not understanding. I've seen some that will tell you what size tools to use for the job. It helps prepare you before you start. I'm not the only one here that thinks it is lacking in details.Even the drawings are not as good as some other auto makers manuals. Have you look in a Lexus service manual? That's just one to compare it to.It has more details. I am mechanically inclined. That wasn't what I was getting at. I was just stating it wasn't detailed as some that I have seen. What about CD-ROM discs? They tend to be more in depth. To have a service manual that is full of details is not asking for too much.Even though I'm mechanically inclined, doesn't mean I'm mechanically inclined to work on all parts of an Infiniti. Do you understand why I'm asking for more details now? If you were previously an Infiniti Tech for 10yrs, then you wouldn't understand why I'm asking for this. You already know how to work on the majority parts of these cars. That is an advantage that you have over most of us here already.

Unless I am missing what you are getting at, the Infiniti manuals also tell you this too ... for example, check out page 5 in this section: http://www.nicoclub.com/FSM/M/2004_M45/em.pdf to see what I mean.

From my limited reading (and limited automotive knowledge), what I have seen in the Infiniti manuals is pretty darn complete, although they do assume that whoever is reading it has basic experience with this kind of information - they don't explain everything, agreed!

FWIW, I have never seen a detailed Lexus Service Manual, so I cannot compare to that, of course. Can you post a page or two from these or other manufacturer Service Manuals, of what seems better in those? Z

I have to agree there is at least some information for every piece of any modern car. Are you reading the 07 M?

I would strongly suggest to all my trainees and new to the brand techs that they read the GI section first. This will give you an idea of how the information is layed out. Remember that IDX section will point you in a direction of what subsection you need to look at.

If you have any interpretation questions feel free to email me and I will see if I can help.
