my ca doesn't know what it wants to do... upon start up in the morning (hot or cold) it will randomly run great or run crappy. while driving it will go from crappy to good back to crappy. sometimes it idles perfectly at 750rpm with no sputters at all and then sometimes barely stay running at 450rpm... any sudjestions? could it possibly be grounding?

Definitely try grounding the engine to the chassis. These engines are not very well grounded through the wiring harness, so some large ground straps are necessary. Go get some battery cables from an auto parts store with a eye on each end and use those. If that doesnt change things we will go from there.

I have three large grounding straps on the engine right now. Numbers one and two in the picture are bolted on one end to the intake manifold. On the other end, no. 1 is bolted to the battery tray, and no. 2 is bolted to the back of the strut tower. On the other side of the engine, I have one strap that goes from where the lift point was, right above the dipstick, to the drivers side strut tower. I know the picture sucks but its the best I could do.
