AFTER A LONG WHAT? 5 WEEKS OF DAILY SEARCHING... I HAVE MY 240SX!
1993 240SX SE65k mi on the engine100k mi on the chassispower windowsmoonroofmanualnew clutch, new brakes, new axles, new rear wheels, throttle body has been cleaned, and tune up done before pick up.
it's not as nice as 'def-zero's, which I'm still jealous about, but it's still my baby! Nothing like the feeling of buying your own car and not Driving Momma's Car. =)
The following is my initial driving impression. Might be good for others that are new to the 240SX and sporty cars like me.
Initial driving impressions. I had test driven the 240SX before, but only on inside streets, which means I haven't really pushed it or even driven it at high speeds.
I had a friend of mine take me to do the pick up, which was like 90 miles away from where I live. We took my G20, so on the way back my friend went slow in my G20. I tried to stay behind in case she had any problems. Anyways, so initially we were going slow, but at some point we got separated. After awhile I saw a car that I thought was my G20, so I followed. She seemed to still be going pretty slow. I didn't pay much attention to it. But then I looked down at the speedometer, and OH MY LORD!!!! I was going like 80-90mph! I thought I was pulling 50mph... no joke! I seriously thought I was driving like a grannie (no offense to grandmas, I love my grandma)... geezus the car has an abundance of power over the G20!
As far as handling goes, on an exit close to home you get onto an overpass that turns enough that most econo cars wouldn't push it too fast; in the G20 I'd hang at 80mph and feel it. Anyhow, I took that turn at 80mph and was pretty much cruising through it. Ah mah gawd! Effortlessly! Never driven a sports car like this before... closest thing was my '88 Celica, but that thing was already falling apart when I got it...
Now the gripes. Lots of interior noise. At 80mph in the G20 the car is pretty quiet. It's a great car for long road trips. 240SX after only half an hour I already felt fatigued by the noise (you can hear sounds from the trunk)... but worse than the noise was the bumpiness... the G20 is very comfortable. Prior to the G20 I drove a Camry, so the G20's suspension was already considered stiff to me... but the 240SX is extreme in comparison. I could feel the bump from ground to car to my *** and up my spine... that's probably the most fatiguing of all. But on fresh paved roads it's fine. I've been spoiled by the G20 in terms of luxury and refinement, so we'll have to wait for a long-term impression; I'll eventually adjust to it.
Oh and the shifter wasn't bad at all. I had test driven a Miata before the 240SX and the shifter in the Miata was ridiculous... I could not find the gears! My old Celica was also very loose, didn't offer in assistance when it came to sliding the stick into gear. Overall it's very easy to find your gear in the 240.
Clutchwise, the catch point is further back than my old Celica, so it's going to take me awhile to find the right seating position where everything is comfortable. It's been at least 3 years since my first stick shift, the Celica, so I'm rusty as it is.
Rear seats... yeah, like someone said they're only there for show to lower your insurance (4 seaters can't possibly be sporty right?).
I'm going to get right to work on removing that spoiler and cleaning up the rust. I got a better look and it is worse than I had initially thought.
I'll attach some pics for show and tell. You'll notice a scratch on the front bumper as well, I plan to clean that up along with the rust and spoiler.
btw, on the center of my steering wheel is a Z logo, this isn't standard is it? I would think it'd say 240SX or Nissan.
