First, I should probably say my old username (85NIS720) isn't working anymore, so I created this one.

Well, after searching for a little while I finally found the 720 forum again. About two weeks ago I finally got my truck back from the shop it's been at for over six months, and I've been driving it daily. Now it's just time to get started on a complete overhaul of the front end and then continue with my original plans. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated!

I'm not sure if this picture is going to work, but we'll give it a shot.

What's your plan of action?

The plan is to cut off the front end about halfway back and weld on a new front clip, then put on new fenders, bumper, etc.

It would probably be cheaper to buy a whole donor truck with a good front end. Use & keep what ever you need & want, part out the rest, and anything left sell to the scrap yard.

If you buy right & sell it right you could even come out with some extra cash above the cost of the donor truck that would help with the cost of paint.

Out of $3800 I have put into my 1966 520 only about $600 has been out of my pocket. the other $3200 came from buying trucks cheap and parting them out. Granted this has taken some work on my part but being unemployed I have been able to continue working on my build with very little out of pocket money. I have not paid more than $300 for a parts truck. And some have ended up beeing mostly scrap as there is no demand for some parts. I use Craigslist for selling & buying. I am going to start selling smaller parts on ebay.

Just food for thought.

That's what I'm going to do. We've found a "nice" '84 donor truck for cheap around my grandfather's house with a solid front end. We're going to use the front end of it, and hopefully sell/part out the rest. I'll post pictures along the way.

Good luck. It's not that hard to do, the number one think I'd suggest watching out for is sheering off rusty bolt heads, use a lot of penetrating lubricant like liquid wrench or PB Blaster, even on bolts that aren't stuck. It'll save you headaches.

He're mine :gapteeth:. This summer it's getting the $50 rustoleum roll-on paint job so it can be all brown again.

Haha, wow..awesome job man, I hope mine turns out that well. I'm a huge fan of Rustoleum primer's and such. PB Blaster is also a new friend of mine. Bolts that have been untouched for 25 years = hell.
