So here it is my s13 . Bought her for 500 bucks with a blown head gasket. Guy said he hit a deer with it, so when I got it the passenger side fender was, and still is f***ed up. The hoods dented big time and both lights didn't work. So I replaced the head gasket and got new light motors, covers, etc. The hatch was also rusted to s***. So here she is.

The hatch Thats right this b**** has satellite TV And now this is my new problemThis is the hatch finished

Why does it not surprise me that you said that?

Its a rough start OP but do what you can with it! Fix the rust, replace the cluster, fix the headlights & damage from the dear, new headgasket [or just swap in a DOHC] and your good to go

The head gaskets replaced, the rust is fixed...that was the only rust on it. The interiors flawless seats need to be cleaned alittle. As for the deer damage. I have a new fender and hood just waiting till I can get it painted all at once. I traded this guy who works at a body shop, paint for tattoos. All I have to do is help him do the prep work.

I give you respect for restoring junk into something nice! It was crap when you got it, but I like what your doing to it. It is a start and eventually if you spend enough time and effort on the car it will be a very nice ride. Good luck with it!

Wow the rust looked pretty bad on that hatch. Hate to say it, but I paid a grand more for mine in worse condition. Everybody will hate at first, but once they see progress they are usually like wow I wish I had that done to mine. LOL Keep at it. I have been going at mine for a year now and its just now getting paint and the engine is leaving the machine shop.

Looks pretty good. $500 doesn't seem to be a bad buy. Did you do the HG yet? I kind of like the green on the valve cover and intake mani. How are the frame rails on the car.

Congrats on your purchase and keep us updated.

Well I got bad news I just put a new radiator in it after not driving it for about 2 weeks. I go to turn it on and it revs up to like 6k and starts pouring smoke out the exhaust. I know the smoke is from the coolent but I can't figure out hy it's going into the engine. I think the heads shot. I'm pissed all to hell about this. Any help. I don't understand why this is happening or happened. After the rad shot I didn't drive it. I don't know....anyone got a KA24DE and manny tran for sale??!!

Sorry By the way frame rails are perfect the only rust was the hood and a little in the engine bay. But now since I think my heads shot... I'm gonna clean the engine bay.

I think what happened was the head was sorta bad when I did the HG it worked until my rad went bad and I think I damaged it even more. I don't think I'm gonna swap DOHC I got a wife and 3 kids so my budget is limited. Found a new head already for 175 so I'm gonna stick with SOHC. Anyone know why it would rev at 6k.

the difference between a properly running SOHC and a properly running DOHC is minimal, at best. Run 93/94, crank the timing, it will wake up.

Is going to a DOHC downgrading? Not at all, but not worth taking an engine out for.

A head swap on a SOHC is easy. Manifolds off, valve cover off, cam out, head bolts.

yeah make sure to get new head bolts.. they are torqued to yeild, meaning that they are one time use only. and make sure to get the head decked as well.
