Finally My EXHAUST CLIP!

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

Ok guys you asked for it

What I did was went to Midas and payed one of the tech's 40 bucks to cut both of the Resonators ( Mid Pipes) out and weld in 2 straight pipes where the Mid's were....

Ill put it this way... it may sound uber loud but as it sits its still much more quiet then say a 350z or older fx35...

but i will also say this... it was BY FAR the best $40 bucks I have ever spend...

But Definitely tell me EVERYTHING you guys think

The video I posted is quiet an accurate representation of how it truly sounds and there is no drone on the highway.

I remember i did the same thing on my EX-S2000, i love the sound you have as in idle and reving as well, now your exhaust sounds more like a fighter than boring old luxury. I am on my way to get it done now~ do you have any other mods on the Intake/Exhaust? or does removing resonator only gave you this sound?

I am loving it!! It sounded like there are some minor back fire though. Am I hearing this correctly?I wonder how much a Canadian Midas will charge me for removing the resonators. And also I wonder if the wife will notice the difference

Thanks for that clip, Rio. Is it possible for you to make another one of you driving around a parking lot, for instance? Would be nice to hear what it sounds like from a short distance, under acceleration. Not sure if your recording equipment could pick that up, but it would be appreciated!

Sounds great! I paid nearly $1,000 to get that sound on my Touareg V8 with a Techtonics setup with 2 Borla mufflers.

Do you have size specs on the H&R spacers? I want to get some for the rear. How about lowering springs. Any available?

Sounds great.

Well, I wanna do the same mod. However, being in Canada makes me pay 200+ for the same mod.

Since I live in Vancouver, I don't mind crossing the boarder to do it.

My question to Rio and abyss is,Do you think any Midas will charge pretty much the same amount?Or, you know the shop personally?

Also, anyone recommand a shop for this in Bellingham WA area?

Lots of thanks in advance.

Mike

I called a few places in Toronto and they can do it for $100. Why would you drive all the way to the U.S. to get a simple exhaust mod done? Any competent mechanic can do it, it's not rocket science.

The EX has a fairly large/long resonator so I would guess you could replace it with the G35 version and end up with a similar exhaust note.

I first went to Midas and was quoted $120.00 I then went to an independent muffler shop; I have thought of independent muffler shops as the last bastion of shadetree mechanics that have a torch and know how to use it for a reasonable price. You might want to look around your community for smaller independent shops. And I think you will find somebody who will remove the resonators for a reasonable price. Ask how much they will charge to re-install them if necessary. If you go to the thread on improving the handling of your EX, you will find photos of the underside of the car that clearly shows the resonators and it is really no big deal to remove them. Good luck! You will love the mod.

Can you tell us what it sounds like under acceleration? Is it raspy sounding or a deeper sound? Thanks

Kamiguy, trying to describe the sound is very tough because it is very subjective. If you like the exhaust note of the Z and G cars, which have a very distinct V-6 sound, very much like a Ferrari Dino V-6, then you will like the sound that you get by removing the resonators. Now what is not subjective, is how loud this sounds. I would describe this as knowing that I have this wonderful engine by the sound of the exhaust note, but not so loud that all my neighbors know as well. As Mikey was told in the commercial - "try it, you'll like it!"

Thanks a lot, Abyss.. that really helps. Wonderfully described. As mentioned, it's easy enough to get the resonators replaced. Time to call the local muffler shop!

I couldn't agree with you more.... It's indeed a big difference and a nice leap forward but I think in the next few weeks or so I'm going to do the intake and either electronic cutout's or just plain straight pipe's from the cats... any input?

I am thinking about switching my mufflers to FX or 350Z ones, i have those mufflers in my garage, my friends did their mufflers and left it in my garage since they had no room and its been a while(the storage fee outrages its value now!) not so sure if they will do its job, they look/are placed different way, but i do want their sound on my EX(bit softer is just fine for me)
