So, been having an exhaust rattle for a few months (Invidia Gemini w/Invidia HFC's). I've tried removing heat shields and everything else to no avail. Some research showed someone else had had a problem with broken welds via the resonators and it sounded similar to my issue. Took the car to a local shop to look into having the resonators replaced as I was heading out to a NICO event last weekend and didn't want the rattle. With the exhaust being SS they didn't have anything to properly cut it or install new resonators. While under the car they thought the problem could be the honeycomb from a cat had broken up and pieces were rattling around in the resonators. So, rattle still existed and no relief.

Mike came to my rescue and had a new set of resonator pipes sent out to me as a first step and should that not resolve the problem new HFC's would have been next. So, for the 5th time I get the car in the air but this time it's up on 4 stands so I can actually access both sides of the pipes for removal.

Getting it up like that was a pain. Raise the rear and put wood under the tires, drop and raise the side with a scissor jack in order for my floor jack to fit under the front, the jack the front to put jack stands under it. Move to the back again and jack it up higher for rear jack stands, then back to the front to raise it further on those stands....whadda bish! :tisk:

Anyway, as I was removing the second pipe I found the problem:

Not only was the weld busted but it was flexing and still connected to portions of the resonator so the inside of the resonator was all busted up. I can easily wiggle it and get it vibrating by hand.

So, new pipes are on and the car is perfectly quiet again...well, as much as the Gemini exhaust will allow. The car was so enjoyable this weekend.

Anyway, thanks to Tunerzstore for taking care of me. :dblthumb:

The parts where we could actually start moving were great. The motorcycles and such we constantly caught up to, not so much.

The best part is spending time with new and old friends.
