Hey all, I finally had my camera with me and took some updated pics for ya...apologize in advance for some of them, it's raining. Mods include a Pioneer AVIC-F90bt double din head unit w/gps, ipod, cd/dvd/video playback, MSN direct, voice recognition etc (best head unit I have EVER owned, and best mod I have EVER done IMO) coupled with Pioneer 4-way speakers in the front and rear doors and an Audiobahn monoblock amplifier hooked up to a 12" Kicker Solo-Baric L5 subwoofer. I also have a 1.3 farad capacitor hooked up to the audio system. I've also replaced the interior lamps (map, dome, and cargo) with super white LED's, and cleared the corner and fog lamps. The front windows are also tinted to 15% I believe, pretty closely matching the factory tint on the back windows. I also removed the running boards to give the truck a little more ground clearance. Truck is an '01 Qx4 in burgundy with graphite interior. Any comments are appreciated, enjoy!

Nice man! When I read your description and saw burgundy as the color, I was skeptical, but after seeing it, that looks BOMB!I agree with you on the running boards. I took mine off and it looks so much nicer. Not to mentions its really only extra weight your carrying to sap fuel economy. Nice ride man. Good to finally see it!

Running boards are required to be installed with stock wheels, 20" plus atermarket per the DMV . Running boards may only be removed from vehicles used for offroading. I think the QX4's running boards are a part of the body unlike some of the pathfinders running boards.

I do like your clear corners, your deck and interior lights, I need to do those items.

ya the guys saying keep the running boards have the older style, I dunno if you guys have seen the 01+ with the running boards of but it looks silly, they flow witht he body on the front and rear quarter, and you can see to much of the underbody of the truck from the side with them off

I took mine off when I first got my truck because they were rusty/ faded, but as soon as I got them off I thought it looked like pooped so I welded some new metal in to strengthen the rusty areas and painted the plastic to look like new again with duplicolour bumper paint

But your choice, your rig

Oven bake method, once the lense is removed from the assembly, the amber pops right off.

QX4Man01, could you post a few more pictures of your QX4 without the running boards. I am seriously contemplating doing this, I'm just not sure if I will like the look or not.

Also, what was your exact method for removing the headlight lenses (e.g. temperature/time in oven)?

Thanks!

I'm going out of town this weekend but will try to take some pics when I get back. I actually got the oven bake method from someone off a toyota forum but from what I can remember is you set the oven at the lowest possible temperature (275 on mine) and place a wet towel on a baking sheet, and set the headlight assembly on the wet towel (if you can, move the oven racks down a bit to prevent any part of your headlight assembly from touching the heating elements; also don't forget to remove the HID ballast from the assembly!). Set the headlight lense down on the towel and leave in the oven for 15-20 min. Then take out the assembly, gently use a flathead screwdriver or knife and remove the lense from the assembly. From there, the orange amber piece is just snapped in and you can remove it easily. After that's done, place the assembly back in the oven for about 15 min (w/o the lense obviously) so that the adhesive can soften again and then use some extra silicone adhesive to seal the lense back up. I didn't think I sealed my headlights that well originally but it's been a while and I don't have condensation. My fog lights however, a different story. Hope this helps!

And you didnt have to remove all the wires and such form the headlight? Just the ballast box unbolted and removed? Theres quite a few wires on there

I bought a used headlight, and the amber piece is "loose" inside just rolling around. I can either not back it in an over and brake the amber piece inside the headlight and pull it out through the bulb hole, or bake the light and fix the amber piece with all the harnesses still atached but with the ballast removed

Yeah sorry, I had to take all the wires and plugs out as well using the oven bake method. W O T you mentioned breaking the amber piece and removing through the bulb hole, that's actually what I did with one of my fog lights since one of the screws was stripped, preventing me from removing the inner-assembly. Adnan, subwoofer hits pretty f'n hard lol, but still no rattling; I had some pretty bad rattling in the beginning but then I found out it was because the bottom portion of my license plate frame wasn't bolted into the truck, so I added some bolts and that alleviated the problem rather quickly and effectively.
