Ive always wanted yellow foglight bulbs for this qx4, tried 2 different sets of bulbs, both sucked, and just looked like dying halogens through the stock housings, didnt wanna convert the fogs to HID. SO I ended up grabbing a set of silverstar H3 bulbs (bright as s***), and I took the foglights apart by baking them in the oven, painted the lenses with transparent yellow paint that I had kickin around from a few other projects.

Not the greatest pictures as it was dark and raining, Ill get some better pics later, I think they came out damn awesome, especially with the cleared headlights. Got quite a few compliments last night out with them at the local meet aswell

Tell me whatcha think

Looks ok...... I'd rather have the 3000K hids, but each to their own. What K hids did you put in the headlights?

Looks ok? How could that look any better? Especially for the price and effort put in

I like the HID/yellow look, but how it looks with the lights off there looks pretty slick. Cool mod, definitely different

I think the fogs look pretty cool, it's hard to tell from the pic but is the light reflecting back into the housing off of the lens or is it going directly out? Personally I'm not fan of 8K temp lamps. You should stick with 4300k so everyone knows your ride came stock with HiD's. Whenever I see anything over 6K I always think it's a ricey aftermarket kid.

FYI to anyone thinking of converting to HiD's: When you do the conversion chances are it'll look like a flood opposed to a driving beam pattern because the reflectors aren't designed for that quality of light. That's why everyone gets flashed(not in a good way) until they point them waaaaay down which at that point might limit your visibility.

How do you like yours Brian? Do they output a good driving beam after you adjusted them?

I can appreciate what was done, but I'm not personally a fan of the yellow fogs. And I would stick with 4.3 - 6k HIDs, but again that's just my opinion.

I agree, the fogs look really clean. What kind of paint did you use? How many coats?

Your beams aren't focused correctly regardless. If you had the proper reflectors your lights would perform as they are intended to. You probably think your visibility looks "amazing" because of the color shift and increase in light output but the quality of light is poor compared to your stock lamps. The reflectors are designed around the lamps, if you look at the 01+ reflectors they're very different from the 00-, there's a reason for that. In the end as long as you're happy with purple lights that's all that counts.

This cost me $6, I didnt wanna spend the $200+ on a reliable HID kit just to have yellow fogs, nor did I want HID fogs or the hassle, for the time and effort I put into these, I couldnt be happier, got the exact look I wanted, without blinding people in the process

Those arent purple but they sure are blue!!

My HID's do look pretty blue in the last pic there, but they look damn white in person. Ive still got the other set, may or may not change em around, I like how much of the road I can see with this bulb with the aimer set on 2 I believe, my old bulbs had good light output for a very short distance, and I had to have the aimer set on the highest setting for nighttime driving.

Ive never been flashed with either set though

Ill get a pic of the can I used for paint, Ive used it on a few of my cars now (looks AMAZING on my crx headlights), you can only buy it at Michaels craft store for people in canada, and you usually have to order it. But its for transparent stained glass paint I believe.

You only need 2 coats, pretty heavy wet coats though. If you do one coat the lenses do look alot "yellower", but Ive found the light they shine doesnt look as yellow, give it a second coat and it goes to a darker shade of yellow, but the light output is as yellow as can be.

Ill go take a pic of the can.

Aparently its krylon stained glass paint, I thought it was a no name brand. heres a pic of the can, I put a regular spray can beside it, the stained glass can is pretty small. Its supposed to have a clear yellow cap on it.

comes in a bunch of different colours, black, red, blue, purple etc, pretty cool stuff, lays smooth and dries quick, UV resistant aswell as its obviously meant to go on stained glass in a house window or whatever

I think it looks great and possibly a better way to go than the Hids. You get the yellow look in the day without having the lights on and you wont go the ridiculous amount of HID trouble i've gone through.

Looks great man I may would have considered changing my fogs to look like that if i hadnt already got HIDS
