Post

I finally got my RB25 on the road last week. I've been taking my good old time with this build, mainly because I was replacing all types of random **** (down to nuts and bolts). I am still in the process of breaking in the motor but hopefully with a nice set of injectors and a power fc I can put down some good power. Anyways, here's my setup....

- oversized pistons (Wiseco 87mm)- shotpeened RB26DETT rods- ARP main studs, rod bolts, and head studs- ACL race bearings- R33 crossmember with modified transmission mount- custom 3" driveshaft- custom power steering lines and cooler- custom 3" downpipe (v-band)- 24x12x3 intercooler core- Greddy Intake Manifold- Precision SC61 Turbo- Tial wastegate on modified RB25 manifold- Greddy Type-R BOV, not installed...will install after break-in- Supra fuel pump

I think thats most of the major things. Anyways, all of this was all done in my garage. Thanks to Will and Ben (you know who you are) for the occassional assistance.

Here are some pictures...... (battery is temporary...borrowing it from Will for now, relocating to trunk later)

modified transmission mount (re-powdercoated)

custom power steering line

custom downpipe (v-band)

It looks good. Think you and me have identical items. I to have the SC61, Modified exhuast manifold with the 38mm wastegate, have the greddy intake manifold, and some other items. There are only a few other differances. You will have to keep me updated with the dyno if you go. Mine should be up in about a month hopefully. Got my modified Z32 transmission taken care of and now it is all down hill. Here is my setup: http://img.photobucket.com/alb...6.jpg still some cleaning and polishing to do.

Nice setup ...and it is lookin clean.

Here is a picture of the RB25DET rod on the left and RB26 rod on the right. Hard to tell all the main differances in the picture, but the RB26 rod is quite a bit more thicker and supportive in the areas that count. The RB25 rod is quite a bit thinner in the middle of the arm of the rod and on the bigger tail end of the rod (where it connects to the crank) it is thicker and covers more area on the arch.

Thanks for the compliments everyone. I still have alot of work to do on it (bov, battery relocation, defi display and gauges), but I'm just happy that I can drive the car again. It was down for 2 months.

haha, thanks for letting me borrow it

My father did all the welding. That's also partly why it too so long to get it running. Basically, we would mock it up at home (cutting, marking, taping together) then he would spot weld it at work. Then mock it up again....and so on. But it turned out pretty nice.

Nice paint scheme...Looks exactly like mine... which is made of win and magic. lol.

I like the welds and way everything is set up, if you dont mind me asking... What welding process did you use to get the wastegate on the manifold? We were going to do something like that on the RB20 we're building up, but he got another manifold instead... But for future reference i might do something along the lines of that becuase its fckin sweet as hell looking.

Also, with that greddy manifold where did you hook up the water bleeder valve lines?

thats a nice clean looking engine VU. got my car back on friday, went to take it up to a settlement north on 270, ended up racing an s2000, and wound up on the side of the road getting towed back to laurel. my mechanic said it might be fuel related, i thought i blew a head gasket.

I started by mocking up the wastegate in the right position and drilling the hole for the pipe. Then welded the wastegate flange to the stainless steel pipe (tig stainless steel). Since my father didn't have a stick welder at work, I just called welding companies to find a good stick welder. I brought them nickel 55 (55Ni) stick welding electrodes (this is what Lincoln Electric recommends for welding stainless to cast iron). He started by pre heating the manifold. During welding, heat the manifold as needed if the manifold temperature starts to drop. Once you finished, post heat the manifold and bring the temperature back down slowly. Done. One last thing you should do is check for straightness of the manifold flange. After that, I sent it out to jethot for the jethot 2000 coating in black.

Alot of places didn't have any experience with welding cast iron. But if you can find a good stick welder, just bring them the electrode, and just make sure they pre heat and post heat. That's what I did and it turned out really nice.

As for the coolant bleeder.....you don't use it on the greddy intake manifold.
