I need to vent about the s*** I had to deal with for the past month because of my car so here it goes. I bought my manual 1997 240sx two years ago from a guy in the city, it use to be a automatic but specifically told me the swap was done by a professional mechanic shop and there would be no problems passing inspection etc... Now this was my first car so my lack of experience in knowing how a car should run didn't help me here at all. I have only put 11,000 miles on the car in the past two years and my clutch blew out. This was at the END OF MAY. The transmission and clutch were not installed correctly, the previous owner drove the car into the ground. The mechanic at the shop has 30+ years of experience and told me he has never seen a clutch in such bad shape. He replaces the clutch in a few days and finds that the check engine light was bypassed but on so I could not pass inspection. Finds out the guy put a automatic ECU from a 1995 in it.... So my mechanic found me a manual 1997 ECU cheap and installed it. A bunch of sensors weren't even installed or not working and had to be replaced (sorry I forget exactly which ones). I forget the exact terms but there was still a code being thrown for some fault in the car's gas system. Luckiest thing ever, the mechanic was able to find that the amp which was already installed when I bought the car was screwed into the back seat straight into the gas tank. So $1,800 and a month later I have my car back.

-Auto ecu's are common to use.
-Bypassing sensors is also common.
-Bad clutch in a 240? NO WAY!
-Should have been >$500 in parts, shops are for hardy boiz

How was the trans installed wrong?

Any why didn't you fix this yourself?

I really should have but that would have only solved that problem. Getting the safety inspection was really the huge pain in the a**.

He's been a family friend since I was born, he actually cut me a huge deal on labor.

He's 18. Most likely he isn't mechanically inclined. I'm only a year his senior but still could be the issue.

^ exactly. Gotta work up to replacing your clutch, seeing I have barely any previous mechanical experience besides watching.
