Hey everyone, I'm sure this is mundane to most here, but I'm stoked! I finally got my 240 towed(yes towed) home. It was pure luck that I ran across this gem in an alley a couple weeks back. Is a 92SE, has ~120k on the clock, with cracked windshield and busted out rear quarter window. Oh and there's a 3" hole in the block. ;-)

I figured I take a min to introduce myself, let you all know I have only good intentions! Listed below is a short priority list.

1-Clean/repaint engine bay2-new eng.- gotta have it(KA24DE). Am considering sourcing from salvage yard 3-windshield and window - gotta be road worthy4-exhaust to support future turbo5-Replace cracked dash, new carpet(moldy/musty from window out)5-Suspension, brake upgrade6-Turbo support(fuel system, clutch, battery reloc, etc)7-Turbo kit from nsport

At that, I do have some quick questions to ask. Correct me if I'm wrong, but _any_ engine from an S13 chassis should be a direct swap, correct? What are your thoughts/experiances on buying salvage yard engines? If I flow test it on car, should this be a good indication of it's condition?

Respectfully,-Jamie

nice catch man.. keep us up on the mods/repairs. oh, and as far as the engine swapping... ive never had the experience myself but a frined of mine has. he says a KA24E is a straight swap, but the KA24DE is just a bit more complicated. nothing major but its not just a quick throw-in job. good luck

nice find. I have a suggestion though. If you are planning on going turbo (with the KA) soon and have the funds right now, you may want to rebuild the engine and get it ready for turbo with new pistons, rods, etc. Also make sure you find an engine with good compression and low miles if you're even just using it for a little while, and go for the DOHC model engine. You might as well start out with a little extra power!

since the car is a 93, a ka24de would be a straight drop in. Don't even think about doing the ka24e.. I've found that they are more expensive to find since they weren't made for but 2 years in the 240 and all of them are high mileage. Just swap the stock motor back in and build it up to turbo specs.

Hello again, I just typed up a good 30mins worth of message, but lost it... arhh... so here's some highlights...

First, thanks for all the comp's. Yes I too am fond of the coupes.

This is a 92 w/dohc as Altima92 1/2-way spotted...

For now I would like to remain on stock internals. Partly because I don't feel like rebuilding right now, and secondly, I don't need an insane amount of power - hopefully this will keep my urges at bay. :-)

One thing I would like to get out of this thread(before I move to ka specefic) are things to look for and avoid when engine shopping from a salvage or 'junk' year. Oil colors under the valve cover, on dipstick, visible leaks, these sort of things. I will no doubt have a friend do a complete leakdown/compr test for me.

Ok, I'v lost motivation to continue(along with feeling in my finger tips). I'll be back around to followup.

Oh and it was $200 for clear title. ;-)

Regards,-Jamie
