finally got another s13 !!!

so yesterday was the 5th week mark since my car was stolen. i have been 5 weeks without a car... greatest time of my life !...

anyways, so make the story short this guy named Dome was selling his '89 240sx coupe se. he likes the coupe better, but his girlfriend likes that hatch. his hatch is sr'd btw. so he said either sell the coupe that he likes, or get *****ed at everyday by his girlfriend for keeping it... so he sold his coupe.

$2500 for a coupe with no rust, clean paint, only the front bumper is messed up. hud of course doesnt work, interior lights dont work either, he said it was probably because the guy before took out the alarm and it messed up the electrical stuff. everything seems to work fine in his car. oh yeah, he also threw in a new ka clutch and a rhd dash lol. he didnt want them so he gave them to me. also got a bunch of wiring harnesses, too bad i dont know what all of it is for though. anybody want a rhd dash ??? haha. i will post pictures when i get my car, its currently being parked at my friends because i havent made a gate key yet, i dont want my car stolen again.

problem... so on the freeway i was driving home. i was in fourth and i hit 4k and i got fuel cut... i was like WTF ?! didnt think too much about it and kept driving... freeway gets freer so i keep going on the gas. now im in fifth and about 3500rpm then i hit fuel cut again. im like WTF ?! and it was constant everytime i hit 3500rpm... not sure if its normal. i dont know how fast i was going because the hud wasnt working... ive driven my hatch up to fuel cut before also, but that was because i maxed out the speedometer at 115mph... i dont think i was going 115 with the coupe today. anybody know about this problem, or should i just search ?

another question, ive only bought a car once before this time... and im not sure what to do when you buy a car and stuff. so i have the certificate of title (pink slip) and this other thing 'statement of error' Dome bought the car 3 months ago and never registered it, so thats what the statement of error is for. anyways, so what am i supposed to do, like smog the car (test only or just regular smog), and go to dmv and register the car ? was i supposed to get anything else from him when i bought the car ? all i got was the pink slip... please dont tell me i ****ed up

pink slip is most important, get your car smogged though I Suggest to do the pretest just incase it fails. Unless, of course, the car has already been smogged 3 months ago when it was initially sold. Then you need to go to dmv with the certificate and register the car

about fuel cut... does 240sx do that when in limp mode? i remember integras can't pass 4k when in limp mode or something

mileage is undetermined due to the fact that the HUD doesnt work.

im pretty sure itll pass smog, he told me he just bought the car and it sat in his garge for three months. it has some thick *** BLACK oil . also, i see ORANGE in the radiator... it kind of scares me. my last 240 had orange and it was rust... and it rusted through the intake manifold.. i dont want another rusty engine :(:(:(.

Fuel cut @ 3500...possible ecu problem?

Check that out asap, and do the normal new owner maintenance quick. Flush the cooling system as well.

oh yeah, check engine light is on... dont know why. could that be a reason ? hope i didnt buy a messed up car

I think the ecu is in safe mode if it wont rev past 3500and you might have to pay back fee's since it wasnt registerd, also since it has a CEL it wont pass smog:(

But cool that you got another 240, my car got stolen on april 4th and its now may 4, dont know when or what kinda car im gonna get

fux0rs !... seriously... pay back fee's ?... whats that ? damn CEL... i should just disconnect the bulb huh... would that work ? or are they gonna put it in the 'on' position to make sure it works. and anybody know what the hell is wrong with my car... i seriously hope i didnt buy a lemon... i bought it 'as-is' and my friend just told me what it meant... FUX0RS !!!

and engine swap ? i was just about to order a CA clip but then my car was stolen... so most of that money is going towards this car right now... *sigh*

oh yeah, how do i get out of safe mode ? and itll only give me fuel cut at 3500 when in fifth... and 4000 in fourth...

no insulation... is that normal ? it goes around most of the ceiling of the car

its probobly in safe mode because a sensor is bad or not connected right. check for codes, the cel being on means somthing will pop up.

i took it to a mechanic i know and he said he'll reset the ecu for me, so itll turn off. but only because he wants to help me out to pass smog. he said BUT if the cel comes back on during the smog check... you fail . still waiting for this one gauge cluster from someone on this board... WHY WONT YOU RESPOND ?! . anyways, do you guys think i should do it ? just have him reset it then TRY to smog ??

id say fix the problem. the ecu will flash a code and tell you exatly whats wrong.

from reading the faqs on this site and searching, people with coupes that have their hud not working have their CEL on... they solved it by putting in analog gauges. still waiting for someone to sell me their cluster/subharness

Definitely a good deal... I dunno about down in CA but up in WA where I bought my coupe, I paid $3500 for an 89 non-XE. I've since put about a grand into repairs.

So yeah aside from the bumper and the windshield, your car looks dead sexy. Good deal man.

thanks. right now it has orange in the radiator, im thinking its rust ?... looks like rust like my last car . and oil change tomorrow. everything else ill do myself, im just too lazy to do those two myself. and i cant find my freakin o2 sensor tool ! cost me $15 last time . and the only other problem that im bothered by is hud not working because its making my CEL come on... at least thats what i think its on for...

As far as the rust in the coolant, just give it a couple of flushes with the thermostat out, and put a new one in just to be sure.

Perfect project while you're waiting for the oil to drain. Just make sure you put new oil in before you run it.

why do you need a o2 sensor tool? I thought you just unscre that thing?

cant use a regular socket because theres a wire. you need a slotted deep wall socket for that stupid o2 sensor. i think you could use an open end wrench... but its harder

and im probably gonna take it to the shop tomorrow to do it for me. to lazy to do that on my own right now. got finals next week and i dont want my car dying bc of my neglagence. hmm.. new thermostat... how much is that gonna cost me ?

I just used an open-ended 21MM (I think?) wrench to get the thing off. Just gotta pry and pry and use lots of WD40 / PB Blaster.

found something weird about my sun visor... ill try to post pics tomorrow. ill also try to take some more pics of the car . so busy with school, hardly have time for the car... last final is on the 17th of this month... after that, ill spend my days, dusk til dawn working on my car

alright, so i take my car down to the shop for some coolant and oil change. coolant is ****ed up all brown and orange dirty stuff. good thing i flushed it and not lag it like my last car. hopefully no damage done to the internals of the car. they said that CEL was on and i knew, so it was ok. the mechanic helped me reset the ecu so i could take it to smog and pass . but when i started up the car again the CEL came back on. he then insisted on finding out the problem free of charge, using that obd stuff is like $57 just to diagnose ! he said they were codes 12 and 34 i think... speed sensor and egr something. ill recheck later.

so he calls up the smog guy, which is next door and tells him that my CEL is on bc of my speed sensor, and asked him to ignore it. so i took it to smog, and to make it short, i passed . now im on my way ready to register the car finally. BUT, i have a few questions...

so when you go to register the car you need the pink slip, and the smog thing. do you also need the 'bill of sale' or is that not needed because you fill out the pink slip stuff. if thats the case then... heres my situation.

the guy before me never registered his car, so then he sold it to me. to register to the dmv it would be like a double transfer which they said requires two 'bill of sales'. what i have is the orginal pink slip filled out to the previous owner who never registered the car. and now i have a 'statement of error' that he said would correct it. and from the looks of it, its basically the same stuff on the back of the pink slip. SO... do i need the 'bill of sale' or is just using the pink slip and the 'statement of error' good enough. stupid dmv site is like giving me 2 different answers . any info is greatly appreciated, thanks !
