well i just bought a s13 hatch with an rb20det already in the car but has not ran in the car sense they put it in.. supposably the upper harness was done by a shop somewhere. it looks half way ligit, the rubber grouments are on the firewalll and all the wiring is going through the grouments which that alone is pretty impressive. :yesnod from what i have been told all thats left is the lower harness and the intercooler which all is included.. the motor is extremly clean along with the cams well from the amount i can see from under the oil cap. i looked this car over for about an hour hour and a half. i paid 1500 bucks for it.. i will get pics up later but for the whole swap alone i couldnt beat it. what are some common problems people run into before starting the motor for the first time?

Did u try to crank it by sending power to the starter to make sure the motor even spins?

that was what i had planned to do.. but the guy did not have a battery.. hopefully the motor starts. i do know thats a horrable way of buying a car and would like it if noone insulted me on this. thats why i spend over an hour looking at this motor and so forth. i just hooked up the lower harness last night.. we will see tonight if the motor turns over.. i have faith in it. the oil looks clean with no metal shavings in it.. although that still tells you nothing especially if he just put new oil in it.

I purchased my S13 with rb20 swap as well. It was running, albeit poorly. A few trouble areas are the coolant lines towards the back/under of the intake become very brittle and the hard lines around the back of hte head for the turbo can become clogged easily. Also, the exhaust manifold studs are known to break off in the head. Most notibly Cyls 1, 5 and 6.

Luckily, the wiring has been pretty reliable and since remedying all the driveability issues, is now a decent DD.

well the good news is i got the motor cranking. the 240 use to be a automatic and when he did the whole swap he forgot to jump the 2 wires together for the park netural safety switch. now i have the car cranking i still cant start it sense for some reasion theres no maf.. :tisk: i did find a rb25det maf. are the rb20det maf interchangable with the rb25det mafs? now i have it well i cant start the car untill i have it...this sucks. i just want to hear it start lol

It should start without the maf been plugged in. I think the E60 maf is replacement maf. Make sure the 2 green relays are plugged in near the ecu if they didn't reroute them.

what all do you have to do in order to get the 92 maxima maf to work properly with the stock rb20? will it plug into the rb maf connector?

The RB25 S1 and RB20 AFM's are the same (JECS Green). The purple A32 Maxima has the same curve as the J60, but uses a different pin-out, I believe (N60/62 style).

Basically just swap the connector and you should be good.

You only really need the z32 if you plan go above 300hp, otherwise the stock one is fine. The z32 will work as stock, i ran one on my daily/stock rb20 for about 2 months. If i remember correctly the wires are run the same but check on the forums for a pinout.

@OP, you gotta take a risk sometimes to get a good deal so dont feel bad about the purchase. But it could go either way!
also, if you hear the 2 green relays click when you turn the key all the way forward-theyre working.
