Hey ladies and gentle men, my names Isaac, just acquired a 89 240 on a straight trade, had a 91 maxima that had a lot of goodies but I've been wanting a 240 because of their ability to become nice little race cars. Let me start by saying that the car isn't perfect, BUT, it did come with a full turbo setup with intercooler pushing a full 14 psi, a nice metal radiator, strut bars on front and back, full 3" inch straight pipe exhaust with headers, short shifter and a few other things. Now the bads: obviously can't smog it since having awesome race cars is illegal in Cali and nowhere else in the world, has some wiring issues with the fans on the radiator, there's a busted hose under the intake manifold that I have no idea how to get to, needs exhaust manifold gaskets that I got with the car so that's gravy. Needs complete restoration of the interior and rear struts need replacing which the guy had already bought the parts for and gave them to me, also gave me some big injectors off of an eclipse that are better for turbo. So all in all did I do a good choice in trading?

Yeah I'd say that was a good trade haha. Fix the little things and move out of California :)

So I got all the little problems sorted out on it so far, I have an issue with the turbo when ever I hit 5 rpms or higher on 2nd or 3rd the car hesitates like its not getting enough juice or something, other than that it runs great when I don't push it, anyone got any suggestions?

I would say its not getting enough fuel, what pump and injectors are you running? and on another note, how are you liking the kae-t despite the issue? thinking about doing mine

That's what I'm looking into is fuel injectors cuz I have the stock ones on there, the guy gave me some eclipse 450cc ones that he said would work but I'd have to modify a lot of things to have them working right. I did some research and found out there's a few rx7 injectors that are just drop ins but I'm still confused on how to tune the car for them. The turbo is pushing a lot of boost so it picks up quick u until it stutters because of the lack of fuel. I'd like any help I can get, I got this car because I've been getting into mechanical work and I want to learn how to build and tune a turbo car properly. Thanks for your help guys!

Tuning a (an electronically controlled) car usually entails modifying, altering, or augmenting the settings or output of the ECU. Usually involves some type of hardware - piggyback (afc neo, haltech sport, greddy emanage), standalone (haltech platinum, power fc, aem ems), or modding a stock ecu (chip flashing / swapping, nistune). Dunno if the stock KA ecu can be tweaked, but if it can't, and you don't have some other fuel / engine management system in the car, then you can't tune it. Yet. If you can mod the ka ecu or you do have some type of FC in the car, then you "can". But I'd leave it to people who have experience with tuning cars. Getting setting wrong can make an engine go boom.

Also, if you're running stock injectors @ 14psi, I'm inclined to agree with Tannerville. Turbo'd, you probably should have an air fuel meter (a good proper wideband) too.

This is what I traded, I think he did it because he needed a reliable car and this one needed a few things but not anything major, he told me the engine had 20k on it from a rebuild the previous owner did, all in all I'd say one mans junk is another mans project :)

Okay okay, it looks like you had a fine sedan, as far as fwd sedans go. In fact, a very nice one.

But who cares? you totally traded up (in my personal opinion).
