Well, I finally got the car into the 13's this weekend with a 13.6 at 99.6mph runnin on 11psi. It did it 3 times then, after the 3rd run, I heard a ticking coming from the motor. It sounds like either a bad bearing or a bad valve. It's a tapping noise that only appears above 2500rpm. Kinda crazy though if it ends up being a valve cause I rebuilt the head with Greddy valve springs, rocker stoppers, etc...Oh well...any ideas on what else could be my problem. Car doesnt seem to stumble at all. We took the valve cover off and we didnt see a busted rocker.

My friends civic had the same problem after being ran hard. But it turned out he was low on oil and it spun a rod bearing. We tried replacing it with the thickest bearing available but had no luck and had to replace his motor. It also would only make the noise when you reved up past 2500, but then it eventually turned into an all the time ticking. Good luck on whatever it turns out to be.

Now dont flame me for this one but this is one thing I dont know...does the SR have lash adjusters like the 4g63 motor? I was wondering if it could be a bad lash adjuster...

wish i could help ya but i have no idea what you just said. you can always get a buddy to rev the car while you stick your head under the hood and try to listen for where the ticking is coming from, that should get you a better idea of whats wrong.

Well, we did that...we took the valve cover off...started the car (Yeah, I know that's bad) and listened real carefully. After taking an oil bath, we couldn't hear where it was other than it was in the top end somewhere. So confused.

Okay, so we did a compression test and every cylinder came back 100psi. Anyone know what typical SR compression reads?

That motor is bad. Compression should be above 128 psi minimum. 150-155 is maximum/good compression.

Is that even with 1.2mm headgasket? Kinda hard to believe that the motor would be bad being that every cylinder read the exact same thing and that the motor still ran okay even with the knocking.

That's compression on stock motor.

I'm starting to think that my problem may be oil depravation to the lifters...I'm gonna check my oil pan tonite to see if there are any dents.
