lmao that isnt me painting thats a friend of my dads that offered to do it for us and it came out amazing. 1 coat of primer, 2 coats of metallic red and 2 coats of clear coat. I am veyr happy with it. You don't need to give up a kidney lmao and us down here try to mimmic americans and put 240 side glasses and plates on since all we get are the 180's and 200sx's out of japan... I know alot of americans are looking for jdm tyte cars like we have down here. You can tell by the brake boost holes and clutch cylinder holes that it is a RHD.

I was in a thread a couple days ago saying that i got the subframe off another nissan that bolted straight onto the s13 where the sr20det subframe is and that the rb20 mounts directly to it with no clearance problems due to the different mounting position and steering rack etc. Any just took some pics. I think it may be from a laurel but not sure. Sure beats using special mounts like top hat etc...

First pic is the subframe that was used to get the rb20 to mount into the s13 properly and the second is a pic of the original SR20det subframe out of my front clip

Here he is caught in the act, working in the rain to get the engine bay ready for painting.

If his hair wasnt so long you would be able to see a bit of his face!! I could have chosen a full on face shot, but he gets droopy eyes whenever he sees a camera.

By the way I'm his poor suffering father and the brains behind the swap LOL.

I guess he will be pissed at me now:-)

Awesome job! Cople of questions though... Are you painting the car red? why is it you went with a red engine bay? Whats that welded area on the firewall for, rust?

Job looks good I think you should have painted on top of the cowling though. Its awesome you and your pops can do things like that, my parents got divorced when I was one so be glad you get the chance and flame him back!

hey blk90S13, is that a wangan spoiler? I was thinking about getting one have any other pics?

I am offended by one thing. Don't post up a pic of your RB on the side and your SR in the middle. I should slap you LoL.

lol lol lol slap away then. The top of the rb20 will be painted red and the colour was matched off the top of the sr20. The car is staying white and i want the red engine bay hidden. Its gonna colour match the engine quite nicely. I am going with a gloss black on red theme for the engine bay. I think we are gonna try a new style and paint the whole roof black along with the top of the cowling. Never seen it done so will have pics up about it. Anyway i'm gonna run out and get some pics of the engine bay now. Should make you impressed.

thanks man. I changed the oil in the lsd today and we are gonna get the rear subframe in. I am working on getting those front rotors back on the new front subframe. Had to cut the metal shield that fits around the stock rotors to make my skyline ones fit. Will get more pics soon. lots of work being done.

The welded part of the firewall is where the clutch goes. The car was originally an Auto but when the RB conversion was done the person who did the work used a torch to cut the hole for the master cylinder and about four other holes for mounting the brake pedals and cylinder. It was such a horrible job that I cut out the barstadized section and cut out the matching piece from the front cut.

The replacement piece was made oversize so that I could overlap and braze it as I didn't want to arc weld it. I don't have a mig nor any real thin arc rods.

I had faired it with body filler but the damn stuff never got properly hard so I gave up and got it all off and we just painted over the overlap. It came out god enough so to hell with it.

We had a few problems getting the rear diff and sub frame back on but with a couple of jacks pushing at angles we managed to get the last stud to line up. The brakes had us confused for a while, they are apparently from an S14 and have different pads than the S13 plust they have done away with the hand brake drums and now connect directly to the brake pistons...pretty slick.

We have the entire dashboard and everything that fits behind it off including the two wiring harnesses. This will be our next project for tomorrow.

We're both just glad to now be starting to put things back together, the fun stuff is beginning.

By the way thanks for the support you guys have shown.

Chris

You brazed the clutch bracket plate? I would be VERY weary about it braking because the clutch pedal is used the most. I would be scared to have it break off and that is very likely. There is still a chance you may save it though since you over lapped it. You could run rivets along the outer edges or even lay another plate over top and rivet that also. The pedal may look good but once you apply pressure to it with the clutch line on you could see that it will probably start to flex. Brazing is not to take any stress it just bonds things. You might want to look into it before you put the motor in because if it does break then you wasted time installing the motor.

Other than that you swap look very nice and similar to mine. Good luck we are here to help!-Alex

We aren't too worried about the clutch pedal. The piece brazed in place was largely oversized and since it was 2 layers of metal it was easy enough to force it apart and slide it into place with a huge overlap. It was brazed both on the inside and outside. The clutch pedal is in place and feels veyr firm but i am not sure if we can tell easily with out a tranmission in place.
