Hey guys,

Just thought I'd share some of the work I've gotten done recently. I have had a couple well paying side jobs, that I've been able to pay some debt off with, and spend a little money on my freakin awesome car. My last turbo setup was dissappointing, and quite jankily put together. It had multiple problems that drove me absolutely insane, I'm really glad I've finally had the opportunity to fix most of all of them.

A couple of problems with my setup include: Blow thru maf strategically placed above my exhaust manifold... yeah great idea. Screw clamps and blown IC pipes, over, and over again. Very small FMIC with end tanks on either side, this required me to run a cold pipe in between the motor and radiator, not allowing for a thicker radiator or puller fans. My motor would get up to the high 90 degree's C after driving for more than 20 minutes, and promptly hit 100 if I ever tried to get on it. Last but not least, I finally admitted to myself that my T3 was not much bigger than the stock turbo. I think at its best, I might have seen 270 whp, this was not worth the work I put into my setup.

Here's a couple of pictures of the new setup, I'm interested to hear what you guys have to say. Constructive criticism, or complements are appreciated.

-6 boost forward mount, twin scroll manifold-Reman, 8 blade, Holset HX35, stock wastegate removed and welded-Turbonetics 38mm Deltagate (will see if this is sufficient)-Same side FMIC-Much Much bigger radiator-2.5" intercooler piping into 3", all new silicon couplers and T-bolts.

And here's the ol girl... Dont mind the dirty wheels..

Couple months ago...

My brother's hosting an MR2 club dyno day on the 10th, I'll be doing three pulls that day, provided I have a confident street tune. If I like where my AFR's and EGT's are at, I'll set the boost at wherever 340 whp +/- 10 hp is. Right now I'm working with 440cc injectors, a walbro, and a Nismo FPR. I'm limiting the power at this point just to stay on the safe side until I get some larger injectors. From other setups I've seen, this should be achieved at 14-15 psi.

I'd really like a solid twelve second 1/4.

Cheers

Yes I understand I'm having a wierd color coordination crisis lol. The turbo was coated with the type R krinkle (sp?) coat red when I purchased it... Not sure what I'm going to do about the colors in the engine bay just yet...

Looks good man. Like you said though those injectors will be your limiting factor for sure. If you upgrade those there shouldnt be any reason why you couldnt have close to 400whp. Cant wait to see some numbers from this since we have the same setup. Good luck

Dude, loose that sig.

Driftingislame--looks good man. 1 bar should net you 350rwhp no problem, but that's just getting started with that turbo. I'll let you know if Matt doesn't want the polished compressor cover/wheel I have. Unfortunatly it's another 8 blade, so no performance upgrade, but it's not red

Cool, I'll do that. Thats pretty much exactly the size I'm looking for... But I did just finish my new setup, its just before christmas, school's starting for me again soon, and I'm broke as screw!! But I'll let you know for sure.

I got the front panel off ebay for like $30, some more reputable companies sell them for around $80-$120 depending on the material.

I couldnt tell you the exact angle of the bends, they're pretty close to 90's. I seriously just got a few U bend, 3 inch pipes for the cold side, however, I suggest going with 2.75" or 2.5" if you want to avoid cutting hood bracing for clearance. Still dont know how easy my hood's gonna shut lol.. All of the intercooler piping is custom, this is a lot of work. I do highly suggest going with the same side intercooler like my new one though, this made things a lot easier.

Thanks Carl, I sure hope so. I'd like to show the the MR2 croud a thing or two at the dyno day on the 10th if you know what I mean, lol! You know, just to be the only Nissan, that just happens to be one of the fastest and most powerful. Haaa...

Yeah I've seen that Vid CJ, I really hope I hit similar numbers as that guy. Although I really dont see why I wouldnt. I know the turbo's not even breaking a sweat, but my injectors are, and I have to be mindfull of their flow capacity. Thanks for the pic of the compressor, it looks quite nice, is that the v band outlet? I'd like to retain the same hotpipe, and mine is currently the v band outlet.

Thanks for the responses everyone! Banjo to AN fittings, and downpipe V band flange/clamp should be here tomorrow, if they come, I'll have a vid or at least some pictures to add!

Cheers!-Max

What injectors are you running? Stock? I think you are going to be past 100% duty cycle on those before you get to 350rwhp. Maybe you can turn the fuel pressure up, but I'd just wait on injectors to be honest. One good thing about the 8 blade smaller compressor is it's supposed to be a little more efficient at lower boost.

Matt said he didn't want the pictured compressor and cover, so if you want it, lemme know. It looks like the same kind of outlet as yours BTW.

Cj I'm running Supra 7mgte Injectors which are 440cc's. I've seen people on SAU push them to over 400 whp, but I did the math on it a while back and 80% duty cycle at 43 psi is around 340 rwhp if I remember correctly. This power level I'm shooting for should be safe on these injectors, maybe with a little more fuel pressure... Let me know how much that compressor would run me, my zip code is 97401 in the states. Thanks!

Well thats really good to hear, 11's is where I really want to be with this setup. I just didnt want to set too high of a goal. We'll see, the drag strip doesnt open up here for another few months.

I couldn't imagine the shipping being more than $10 for it. $50 shipped sound ok?

-toadx8u, how much does your car weigh and what kind of mph were you doing in the 1/4? That's boogying pretty good for a GT30r.

Okay guys, I finished everything.

Cranked the the car over and its not even trying to catch, I've got a code 21. I pulled two coils and have hella good spark. I can smell the fuel hardcore. Fuel pressure is good. I just wired in a q45 maf, and thats the only thing that isnt mechanical that I changed since. I feel that if that were the problem then maybe I'd get a maf code lol.

I was at work for 13 hours and I'm going to drink some beer and pass out. No more energy for diagnosing.

After thoroughly screwing up my maf wiring, I've finally found the proper pin placement, and fired her up.

I believe I totally destroyed my plugs trying to run it with the wrong maf wiring, the car misfires pretty damn badly almost all the time. When it does decide to rev smoothly, this thing sounds AMAZING!

WAY different than my last .48 ar turbo and cast log manifold. I'm going to try to figure out my misfire tomorrow at work, and I'll hopefully be able to put up a real update with spool times etc.
