Hey guys, yesterday me and my buddy finally started his 97 240sx. Its been sitting for 6 months or so going under a full rebuild. We installed the AMS rebuild kit, with arias pistons/AMS rods, cometic HG, all ARP hardware, crower 2 cams, new oil pump, etc., etc...... basically we rebuilt the entire engine.

We're using the greddy turbo kit with the blue emanage. Before the rebuild we were using the factory KA MAF, now we have upgraded to the Z32 MAF. The motor starts right up and sounds great, but as soon as we give it a little bit of gas it will die immediately. I was thinking that the Emanage and factory ECU aren't working with the Z32 MAF.

If so, we plan on purchasing an Enthalpy tune with some 740cc injectors soon. I want to hear this thing run for more than 10 seconds.

Any ideas??? Thanks

-Drew

Yeah, if you do go with a ECU/ROM tune, call Jason at EMance. He makes killer tunes, and will do everything he can to make you happy. There's a thread here on the front page about them.

As far as your eManage goes, I have no idea. I've never really liked piggy back stuff that much. Only the SAFC since it's somewhat of a 'fine tuner'

Yeah we're gonna go with a tuned ECU soon.

So if we're using the stock computer with a Z32 MAF, it won't idle/run. Correct?

It will idle fine for 10 seconds or so then die, and if we try to give it any gas at all it immediately dies.

Different MAF or injectors with stock ECU will not work...

I dont know how the emange works, but for the afcneo you would have to switch the hotwire to 2in,5out. so I'm assuming you should switch the signal for the maf. and yes piggybacks are crap compared to ecu tune.

Emance is the way to go. Enthalpy takes forever to respond back to me so i went emance and no regrett.

with the stock ecu my stock maf would cause the car to die but when i moved it from being in front of the turbo to being closer to the throttle body it idled smoothe and reved nicely. if wired properly the z32 maf will work with our stock ecu, but with stock ecu and maf located before the turbo and ur car has a very high chance of not running right. but 1. make sure ur maf is wired correctly 2. make sure that the maf is actually working and 3. make shure ur getting a good tune if u want to be sure a tune is what u need try relocating the maf closer to the t.b. if its wired properly it should idle and rev fine with the stock ecu alone. only problem is, while driving it will start sputtering at arround 5000rpm; solution: changed driving technigue by the way i heard some pretty bad cases with e-mance and enthapy tunes. jwt or stillen tunes will be a better choice more expencive but less likely to cause problems

If you are using the map provided with the Greddy Kit, then you cannot upgrade the MAF unless you use a laptop and Emanage USB cable to change the MAF setting. However, this will require that you start the tuning over from scratch as the Greddy provided map will be password protected.

The Emanage is just as capable and I believe at a higher resolution than the SAFC. Not to mention, with a laptop or computer, you can see all the cells at once and use a mouse rather than scrolling around. The advantage for the SAFC is that you don't need to purchase a separate controller to do the tuning.

Personally, I would swap it out for an E-Manage Ultimate over the Blue and create my own tuning map. The Ultimate is a hybrid standalone that provides full control of the fuel system, but allows the ECU to handle the non-fuel related subsystems. Of course a full standalone would be ideal, but typically is much more expensive.
