So after seeing what you guys all had as tips for what to do, i decided that i would either like to:1.)Pay the 6 grand for a new engine if nissan voids warranty, which seems likely.2.)Buy the engine out of the flipped totalled Versa

3.) *most appealing* Find aftermarket pistons, rods, valves, etc. and send it in for a full rebuild so that i can add on a turbo. Does anyone know of a website where i can buy parts for the rebuild of the engine. I would like to rebuild this beast and add a turbo but i need specs so that i can get an estimate and so that i can buy needed parts. I also plan on getting an engine blueprint when it is rebuilt and i will be able to send it to anyone else who needs exact specs.

Thanks

Don't ever give up on making Nissan cover this!Seriously... call them 3 times a day. Call the dealership, call Nissan corp. customer service... find the office of Carlos Ghosn and call him.

The bigger pain in the butt you are, the better chance you have at getting your warranty filled.

Threaten a law suit!

Tell them you are a member of the largest all-Nissan site in the world and that you are a member of the worlds largest and most active Versa thread. Tell them you will go on a personal crusade to bash the Versa because of this rediculous problem. (don't really do that... just threaten them!).

Seriously though... the more you bug them and work them, the better chance you have at getting the engine swapped. No matter what the dealer says about your "mods", there is no way you could have caused a transmission lock failure. Stick to your guns!!!

I totally agree. You'll have to become that kid who chases that other guy asking for his $2 (some people will know what that means). You really have the upper hand right now. You have to have Nissan prove that you abuse the car and that the damage was not caused by a failure of the failsafe. Pay attention to Eikon, his tactic should be very effective. Nissan knows that bad business is not good business. There's nothing worse than some idiot who creates a national campaign against the Versa. You may have to become that idiot in order to get your engine swapped. I've seen companies replace items or issue refunds, even though legally they don't have to, just to avoid a PR nightmare.

If you have several thousands of dollars to throw at this, then more power to you. Me, I don't have that kind of extra money laying around so I would badger Nissan until they gave me my $2.

get them to cover the engine throught a faulty transmission first. I have tried jamming my shifter into first gear from slowing down from 60+ . IT WILL NOT GO IN. so you literally had to break the transmission Lock, or the transmission lock had to have been faulty.

Now if your serious about building the engine, and you wanna get the parts. that is a lot of work. First thing to do is pull the engine apart to make sure the only parts damages is the, Piston, rod, or value stem.

as long as there is not chunk of the head or block missing. you are good to go on getting parts fix.

Rod, you should go to eagal. if you measure out the entire dimension of the stock rod, they would be able to make you a set.

Piston, i would go with arias, JE, to name a few decent one. they should be able to make custom pistion also. Now for head work. value sprnig and retainer, is a lil harder to find custom work. you might just by OEM for now.

If for some reason you are unsuccessful in getting a new engine (which, the only case I see this happening, is if you give up), there is a company called Paeco that builds up import engines. It is likely they have never seen an MR18DE, so they would need one to build up first. "Rebuildable core" is likely what they would need, so your dead engine MIGHT be usable as a template. It will cost a lot of money and take a lot of time, but they can build up the engine. Though they NORMALLY build engines for power from natural aspiration, they can build them to be blown/turboed.

So i called the dealer and complained and did a lot of annoying, and he said to file a claim with nissan. Another thing was he said the extent of the damage they found was that there was a hole in the piston of cylinder #4. Thats it. I was thinking that i might just tear it apart, put in all new performance valves and valve springs, and performance pistons. If i want to add on a turbo, what else would i need? and where can i find specs on it!! thats what is holding me back the most.

if it just the piston your good to go. but i bet you might need a lil head work and maybe re-bore the cyclinder. but wait on to see what nissan says

If you plan on rebuilding the engine, and you want aftermarket forged internals, all you have to do is contact the manufacturers. Piston companies like Arias and JE will gladly make you anything you want as long as they have the correct specs. Same with Ferrea and other companies like Eagle, Pauter, CP, etc..

If you're going to tear down the engine, you can simply send them the parts for measurements, and they'll make the parts for you. They may even cut you a break if you happen to be the first set ordered because really all they need are the measurements for the computer, and after that, they can churn out as many sets as they need.
