Finally dropped the transmission and driveshaft. I'm working on removing the header and exhaust since the transmission is out of the way for now. I'm having a hard time removing a pipe from the header. The pipe comes from the header and leads around the backside of the motor to the other side.My OEM header is rusted like hell. Got the header heat shield off. I'll go ahead and start removing the downpipe covers from this point. This pipe from the header is giving me problems. I've sprayed loosner (wd-40, etc..).Still not turning. What is this pipe/line?

EGR. And, use PB Blaster or any other penetrating oil, INSTEAD of WD-40 (its useless).

I've sprayed ans let it soak for a couple of minutes and sprayed again and tryied to take off. What harm will I do if I cut it?

You'd need to bypass it with the proper size bolt for the exhaust manifold and get a cover for the intake manifold. And, you might have problems with emissions.

if you have time, let the pb blaster soak for a while. spray it on every hour or so for a day or however long you have.

Never got the egr off. While letting it soak (spraying included) decided to remove the header bolts for swap. One broke in the block Between this and the studio .... is crazy. What am I facing? swap, etc......?

How far in the block did it snap? If it's still got some outside of the head, there's a pretty good chance of getting it out. Weld an a pipe to the stud (make it a T) and twist the hell out of it. That's with the head out of course. otherwise, you can use a double nut method to get the stud out. Or if it's snapped in the head, pull the head and take an easy out kit to it. If the easy out snaps on you, you've got trouble and might want to take it to a machinist at that point lol

To remove the EGR cross-over pipe from the header and other rusted exhaust piping, use an oxy-acetylene heating torch. Heat the EGR tube fitting to a dull cherry red, then you should be able to wrench it off.

Thanks 180 and others. I have crazy question. If I can turn the trans with my hand and no sign of grinding, etc... think it may still work? Initially I had a mechanic tow and check the transmission for me. He said I had some broken internal parts. I was not there. So he could be lying for the money.

It got stuck in reverse on me at a one way green light. Luckily it was up the street from my parents house and had a median I could back up to. True story. I had to back up 1/2 mile on the wrong side of the street to go with the flow of the traffic.(facing on-coming traffic) PoPo road up next to me looked at me, looked at his partner and gave me the 2 fingas and road on. I'm thinking thats gravy. They must have figured either this guy is crazy or something is really wrong with the car. A big drain/ditch seperated the direction of the traffic. I had no other choice. Auto theft is high in Memphis. Had a Sentry stole on the same street after it broke down. No word of it since then 2000.

So does anyone think I should just put my trans back, try it out or just go ahead and purchase a used one, rebuild. Mechanics are kinda high around here. Rebuilding will be 600 to 1300 depending on what parts I need.

pick up a used one. shouldn't cost too much. a rebuild would be a better way of doing it, but can get expensive real fast. I think the most cost effective way is to pick up a used transmission.

Dropped 1, put 1 in. That trans took me about a day and a half by myself, but I got it done . Added the manuel oils and changed the motor oil as well. Just barely got that header bolt out with some needle noses and a small c-clap. Also replaced one of the fuel injectors that fell early. Replaced the headgasket. The car turned over a couple of times and eventually stopped doing that. For some reason I'm thinking my timing may be off. Any ideas

yep gotta be the timing if your car was running before the change over of some parts unless it's a loose plug somewhere

Had it checked out at a local shop. Turns out the car sat up too long. The tank and the fuel pump were all rusted. I've already purchased both of those. I'll install them hopefully before the weekend is out. The shop also said they found nothing else wrong, except I need to change the spark plugs and what not. I'll update my progress soon.
