After 2 1/2 years, there is finally another Nissan in the family!
(It's not mine, it belongs to my wife Cath, but I still get to drive it :woot: )

Image

It's an '87 MQ Patrol, with the SD33 diesel engine.
(Apparently it has already been named "Doug")

It's more of a "Steve" than a "Doug" IMO.

(reference, anyone? :poke: )

Funny you should say that, because that's exactly where it's heading to live.
My wife got a job in Woomera (South Australia), which is about 200 miles into the middle of nowhere.

Woomera has strong ties to the military. The site is currently used today as a military and civilian missile, ordnance, and aerospace systems testing ground. In the past, it was used for tracking and communicating in space, and played an important role in the first moon landing. Also, Woomera became one of the most secret allied bases established during the Cold War.
There's a lot of history there.

Not sure yet, but we were told it would about 1000 miles to a tank (around 37 gallon tank)

It may do, yes. Cath can only have 2 weeks off at a time (max), and if things fall into place, I may be in the same boat.

I am currently located in the Adelaide Hills.
About a 25 minute drive from the capital city (Adelaide) of South Australia.

So being in Australia, everything is already trying to eat and/or kill you. Do those things get bigger/meaner as you traverse the outback into the middle of nowhere AKA the new job?

Does the patrol have a gun rack in it?
Do a writeup and make that thing a NICO featured ride!

And FFS, get a windshield banner on it! :bigthumb:

Yes. These are facts.
This is a pic of a rest stop. (Yes, we took the civic for the "interview" weekend)
Image
There is nothing for 80 miles either side of this. It has toilets, some shelter to park under, and that's about it.
(Except for the killer emus, rabid kangaroos, and the blood-thirsty platypi)
Does the patrol have a gun rack in it?
No. :frown: It only has a bull-bar for mowing down, well, bulls and kangaroos (no fencing up that way, so stock just wanders across the road. We saw about 10 lying dead on the side of the road in the last 50 miles of the drive)

It's not pretty. It has a few "battle scars" from previous off-roading experiences. I'm not sure this would rank as a "featured ride".
And FFS, get a windshield banner on it! :bigthumb:
If there truly is one on the way, I guarantee Doug will be wearing it.
