Finally a really easy way to keep your a/c with your RB25DET swap.

Discuss the RB20, RB25 and RB26 series engines.

Instead of getting custom lines to hook up your a/c using the RB25DET compressor, switch it out with one from a KA24E (SOHC) and it should work.

***NOTE the a/c compressor is from a 90' KA24E. Not sure if all KA24 compressors are the same.

I switched my RB25DET compressor with the KA24E compressor and it bolts up perfect. Everything is in perfect alignment and looks as if the motor came with that. Doing this will allow you to run the stock a/c lines.

Only problem is I haven't tested it yet because my KA24E compressor was siesed up and I need to get a new one. Plus I have not figured out the wiring yet but that should be easy. So far I know the KA24E a/c compressor lines up with the RB motor perfect.

If anyone has done this let me know about the wiring. I searched and could not find anything on anyone doing this a/c switch over.

KAE and KADE compressors are different, and s13 and s14 DE compressors are different

Well then there you have it. The a/c compressor out of an 1990 KA24E (sohc) is a perfect match. A part number???

Yeah, but you haven't hooked it up, have you. Because when you do, you will find your suction hose is about 6" too short. So, yes, you need custom hoses anyway, regardless of the compressor you use, simply due to the fact that the belts/pullies are all 6" farther from the firewall than they used to be. This also means that your discharge hose will be too long now.

Small potatos. We checked the length of the hoses and they have just enough slack to make it work.

Which hoses have enough slack? S13 or R33?

I can put some up of my swap but I don't have a turbo or a new ka a/c compressor. I've been having a hard time finding belts for the RB. I didn't use any mounts so my oil pan is touching my sway bar. When I get my mounts I will get everything rolling. From what I hear, I will have to rewire the a/c compressor. Not sure if that is really the case, but I willl find out soon.

So let me get this straight, you have the RB motor IN the car and the lines do fit? The funny thing about it is that I have a 1990-RB25DET here and they dont fit, they are a little short.

Post some pics of it all fitting and how you made it happen so we can see what we have been doing wrong.

Thanks!Jon

I am 99% sure they won't fit. The compressor sits 6" farther from the firewall with the RB, so how could they???

It sits like three inches further than the ka. Mine reaches with bending the alum. elbow attacted to the firewall.
