Some of you may remember me posting about my remote starter roughly 2 weeks ago. Just in case you don't remember... I received a remote starter, installed, from Circuit City as an early Christmas present. They installed it, but turn signals didn't work afterward and the ABS light was on. Brought it back, talked to manager, and he agreed to work on it to fix the problems. Next day they spend about 8 hours trying to fix problem. After 8 hours, no running lights, no headlights, no horn, no cruise, no electric seats, no heated mirrors, no tilt steering, no rear defrost, no wipers... needless to say Circuit City gave up trying to "fix" my car. So, they agreed to send the car to local Infiniti dealer to have it fixed and they would pay the bill.

Well... 2 weeks later I have my car back. The bill was $1200 at Infiniti, which Circuit City paid without complaint. I got the chance to kick around in a G35x for a week, and got all my wiring redone. I got a new turn signal arm, and a new wiper arm on the steering column. Got a new rear defrost and cruise control switch... all in all, the car is back to where it was. And, despite a little inconvenience, I am pretty happy.

Circuit City could have been a real pain in the *** about the situation, but they weren't. They were very straight forward, paid the bill at Infiniti without complaint, and fully refunded me for the remote starter I had removed. They won't ever get to touch my Q again... but they probably earned some loyalty from me.

I wonder how it got that bad that $1200 of work was needed?? Mine was installed at a local shop in just a few hours and I was good to go.

What harnesses did they replace? I'm curious about what happened... I have installed remote start in both Qs, so it would be cool to see what I didn't screw up.

Flux Capacitor gone bad?

honestly its not that hard to install a R/S on a Q

Although, Jesda's q had 2 ALARMS?!?!? One was tucked under the drivers floor boar with a bundle of wires, and two going into the drivers door.

Definatly random.

Well, I'm glad they paid the bill for repairs without argument...definitely deserves some respect.

BUT...this is just another horror story of things screwed up on peoples' cars by shortcircuit city. I've got a few of my own. I have to admit, though..they WERE always willing to take the hit for their mistakes.

Unfortunately, that doesn't earn repeat customers. Quality work the first time does.

2 steering column stalks, adn 2 switches, plus I'd guess 8 hours of labor, and you're pretty close to the $1200.

Scary to think what all they did to try and get it to work .

Rex, you hit the nail on the head. 2 steering column stalks, 2 switches, 2 relays, and about 7 hours labor... bam, $1200.

What is nice, though, is that my turn signal, headlight, wiper stalks feel all new plush again. Weeeeeeee.

Already done... they took good care of me. They even took my car to the dealership and picked it up in order to minimize my incovenience.

Its all good... I have taken a Nietzsche-esque point of view on this topic... whatever doesn't kill the Q, will only make it stronger.

No need for that! There isn't anything inherently dangerous about the remote start technology - if it's installed properly! I've been running it successfuly in Q1 since 1996 and in Q2 since I started driving her. The trick is not to short things out and put 12V in the wrong place during installation...

Think of it as a tool to encourage good habits... are you more likely to warm the engine up fully before driving away if you have to walk outside (or into the garage for that matter) to start the Q - or from the comfort of your home while gathering your stuff? I even have a garage door remote stuck to my refrigerator with double sided tape so I don't have to open the door to the garage to push the button out there to open the garage door before I remote start the Q!

Yes, I know I'm lazy as hell... I live in the country that has a patent on crustless pre-made peanut butter and jelly sandwhichs and I'm proud of it!
