a motor is only as strong as it's weakest link :-/

How does that bolt see enough stress to break? Isn't that one especially thick to begin with? Weird.

if the bearing in the idler died, then it could have put enough stress to shear the bolt off maybe. just a guess. doesn't change anything now though, someone has a lot of work ahead of them

belt could have been way over tightened also causing stress on it, either way, good luck man, at least you have a fresh motor, and hey, you can part out your old one for some cash too.

soo far everything seems fine. I'm going to put on the belt tomorrow and do the compression test and see what happens. Your right about that bolt being heavy duty. I have no idea why it broke off. Maybe vibration. But i took the cam covers off and everything looks fine.

so the idler broke completely off? wouldn't the timing belt slip/fall off causing "interference" between the pistons and valves?

soo i reassembled the belt and the pulleys. And everything rotates. The valves seem bent and venting the compression out. Won't know untill later on today. But besides that seems well. I got a new one coming at the end of the week.

If anyone is intersted it's yours. If anyone wants video of the motor just email me at [email protected]

I hate this damn motor. I've had problems with it since i've had it.

i still had the timing belt covers on and that's what kept the belt on the cam pulley, tensioner pulley, harmonic balancer. The idler pulley still had the bolt in it and was jossling around in the cover making that funky noise.

Hmm... I might be interested in taking the longblock from you depending on how much damage there is and how much your willing to let it go for. Email me at [email protected]
