Hey guys, im in the process of my sr swap and i have an sr20 swap video, in it they say you need to replace the sr final drive and reverse sensors with the ka sensors...i never heard anything about that so im wondering if you have to do it or not. i have a 89hatch fyi. thanks

yes, if you are using the KA sub harness (highly reccomended for ease).

otherwise, only difference is the plug itself.

EDIT:

only need speed and reverse sensors. others are not needed.

Just to clarify words. final drive sensor is the same as speed sensor. Calling it a final drive sensor is misleading sinse it isn't actually on the final drive gear.

O.o

i guess i was thinking the 4th/5th gear sensor.

but the SR doesn't even have these IIRC. but it does have a neutral sensor, thus making it much easier to properly install a remote start.

yes, you need your vehicle specific VSS. what ever one i supposed to be with your CARS chassis.

and reverse....if you are going legal.

I would at least leave the sensors in the transmission, just to keep the holes plugged no?

haha yeah it came with them, but i dont have the ka sensors anymore. so i assume the final drive sensor is for the speedo and reverse is for the reverse lights?

yes.

final drive or speedo sensor is the rearmost sensor on the trans. looks like a canister for film. doesn't look like any of the other sensors.

you can splice any plugs into the wires. i've even seen stereo connectors used to wire them up. i'm pretty sure wire colors match, but it might not matter. i know it doesn't matter for reverse sensor but the speedo might.

yep. both are just two wire sensors. just get the wires/sensors right. if you need help on identifying them, i'd be happy to assist. as long as you have a multimeter.

and the speedo plug "Should" match up sr/ka iirc.
