Filter question

Hey, I decided to buy a NISMO air filter w/ a maf adapter. I went to install it, but there was one problem I found. There is a hose that blows air out, it connects to the airbox. What is it for? What can I do with it, or is it safe to just leave it there? I want t use the filter, but not if it will harm anything. Any help would be great, thanks.

Does it come off of the back of the air box and go to a black box mounted on the strut tower? That goes to the AIV, and you can either plug that hose, or just remove the whole AIV unit.
