So I have been meaning to ask you guys this, but every time im on here, it always slips my mind. The other day while doing my engine oil, I wanted to do my differentials and replace the ATF fluid and filter.

From what I hear though the atf pan i sealed with some kind of special screws.. idk if thats true or not, but I have et to tackle that.

Back to the org. question, how do you guys get the fluid to the fill holes? The containers these oils come with are too big to wedge up into the differential holes, and the ATF fluid. On my old explorer I used a hand pump, and handpumped it until it overflowed the fill hole, and I would just bolt it shut. Is there an easier way?

thanks

I did my trans but haven't replaced the self sealing screws yet, but I will get them from the dealer. Go to the "How To:" sticky for info on how to do an ATF plus filter and gasket change. Then go to home depot or any auto-parts store and get a small funnel. You don't need a pump.

for starters, the diffs do not use ATF! use gear oil which comes in bottles with narrow spouts that make it easy to pour into the diffs.

to fill your ATF just use a funnel with a narrow spout, and pour through the dipstick tube.

I guess I assumed from his original post that maybe only royal purple had those easy pour bottles. So yeah when I did my rear diff I poured straight from the bottles until it overflowed. With the ATF only fill what you've drained.

idk, i was just responding to the OP. it sounded like he thought that the diffs used ATF. i've never seen any quart bottles of gear oil that did not have the easy pour spout.
