Hey guys/gals,I'm shopping around for an s14 (95-98 240sx). Is there a way that I can tell if it has the ABS option from looking at something?

How about the Limited slip diff?

Thanks,

You can check this site for some of the specs for the model years so you'll know which models had it available. It varied from year to year.

To look for ABS, you can turn the key to the "on" position and the ABS light should momentarily light up with the rest of the dash lights. If you want to confirm, just pop the hood and follow the brake lines from the master cylinder. If they all go to one central location, which would be the ABS actuator, it has ABS. If the lines go straight to each caliper, then it does not. Keep in mind this option was relativly rare...

if you car has vlsd, it'll have ABS. unless, your car was bought with that option.

Yeah the ABS actuator sits up top on the passenger side next to the firewall. It will have several brake lines and look complicated. Best I can describe it.

ok seriously you guys need to look closer at some stuff. two easiest ways if you have ABS.

look to the passenger side of the engine bay. look behind the strut tower buldge...is there a huge silver box thing with 3 lines coming out of it? if yes you got ABS.

#2...look at the circuit box under the hood...look for the diagram and find the wording...ABS.

don't look under the car...don't hit the brakes...don't do anything but the two things listed.

btw i have ABS.

Hey Barrigas, thanks for the advice. Yeah, I don't think I'd want to scare the seller too much by slamming on the brakes as we're going 90, I mean 65. And then tell 'em, oh, I guess you don't have ABS.

Thanks again,

actually both VLSD and ABS brakes are optional. Either you have both, or one or the other. http://www.socal240sx.org/index.html

to check for the ABS, open your hood. Find teh fuse box to the passenger side. Look at the diagram and find the ABS fuses/relay. Open the box. If there is a relay and a fuse in the ABS section then you have it. If not, then you don't.

Yea, make sure to look for the fuse if you are checking for ABS that way. My car doesn't have ABS, but the space for the circut is there.

I just realized I forgot to link this site when I posted earlier. In any case if you check each S14 model, it varies as to whether or not you can get it alone or if it comes with the VLSD.

or check for the big freakin silver box with 3 lines coming out of it. guarentee that if there is a space over there you don't have it. easier than looking for a diagram or a fuse...trust me.
