Not a huge audio into 240 fan but that is nice clean work.

Sorry, I missed that question. Depending on the job, I will use anything from Visqueen, foil, masking tape etc. A lot of bigger jobs require the use of all of them in one way or another. On a job that doesn't need to be absolutely perfect on the backside, I will use Visqueen. Resin will literally fall right off of it. And you can get it in different thicknesses. However, it doesn't mold into areas as good as foil/tape. I really like the Visqueen when doing more of a horizontal lay.... like in a spare tire well etc.

also how would a sub configuration sound if they were in the back facing forward like this\ / \............../

you know kinda a 45* angle or so (dots being the back of the car)would that cancel out the sound quality?

I do the 4 channel to 1 sub and 2 speakers a lot for cheap customers.

Run the speakers off the front 2 channels, and then run the sub bridged off of the rears. obviously no lower than a 4 ohm mono load for most 4 channels.

Search for Visqueen plastic You can get it at Home Depot type places.

That would be perfectly fine. I have done a ton of vehicles that way with great results. I have built around a thousand custom enclosures in my time, in every imaginable configuration you can dream up.

It really comes down to how much sub-bass you want. For a purist, that would be perfectly fine i.e. same amount of power to your subs and highs. If you want to pound though, you are going to want at least 5-10 times as much power to your subs compared to your highs..... assuming the subs can handle the power.

The 8's won't give you much low extension, but maybe you don't care. I will say that I have done some pretty damn impressive 8" setups though! They even surprised a veteran installer like myself. It usually just depends on what will fit the install or how much space you are willing to give up.

Broadfield, have you ever used gelcoat to make moldings? How well does it work? I planned in using it to make a few interior pieces but I've never worked with any gelcoat before.

i had one 8" mtx that i bought from the pawn shop for $40 bucks and a truck box off ebay that was also mtx and it sounded pretty good. surprised the hell out of me. im not looking for the loudest system on the block. just a something that sounds good and wont blow my ear drums. im kinda over the super bass thing. plus the s14 doesnt have much of a trunk and i dont want to take away more room.

i was thinking like two solobaric kicker 8's, with my zapco 500.1. i think it would sound decent. any input?

Sure, but you have to use a mold to use gelcoat. Which means you would have to make a plug first, then a mold off of that..... a lot of work depending on what you are doing. Molds are only used if you are going to make duplicate parts. So in your case you would simply make the part out of glass then paint it... done!

yea it will def help me out job wise. I still don't think they would let me do custom jobs, but they do know i have the ability too and the interest too so i could work at a place a year or so and move up from there.

thanks. It's really not that tough, you just need a lot of time and a ton of patience. Other then that its just basic wood working skills, fiberglass and bondo. and no its not automotive paint. its automotive paint out of a spray can though. haha. but yea, right now its very cold here in chicago so i didn't want to pay for paint, set up a booth, and bring out my compressor and gun just to paint in crappy conditions. I'll probably pull everything out in spring if the paints not holding up. Honestly though it looks fine now and it should hold up so we'll see

so my brother had this idea to make a wood floor trunk. usually i think his ideas are stupid just like i thought this idea was. but then i thought about it and decided to give it try. i was going to to just black carpet but thats boring. this is def not anything ordinary. it was pretty easy to make. just went to menards and got a big sheet, cut to size and painted the cracks white to give it that marine look. some of you may hate it, but i thought id just give it a try. idk looks kinda cool i can always recover it if i get sick of itall the dirty grey carpet will be covered in black to flow with everything too. next is making a amp rack similiar to the sub box to match it
