One of the big news going around the Playstation forums and getting locked quickly is the displeasure of Square-Enix releasing the game now for the 360 as well. They think that now this product is going to go the same way as pretty much all the EA products, first being developed on the 360 and then slapped together and ported in a lackluster way for the PS3. To which has some truth to it. Pretty much all the sports games made by EA run a lot better and have more features on the 360 then the PS3. The latest NASCAR game ringing many truths to that statement. On the personal level? I don't really care, I haven't beaten anything Final Fantasy related since FF7 and that was in 1998. I have pretty much all of the Final Fantasy series, most of still in shrink wrap. Not huge into this gaming scene at all lately. Your thoughts gentlemen?

Well one of my friends will be happy. He's a big FF nut and was planning to get a PS3 just for FFXIII. Now he won't have to.

As for whether this is good or not (and this is directed at the people who had these ideas, and not you f1seb):What on EARTH does EA have to do with Square Enix? EA sucks. They never do ANYTHING right, regardless of what it is. Of COURSE they farked up porting games. That's because they're EA. Who said Square Enix was going to do things the way EA does? Bunch of whiny Sony guys need to put their brains back in.

You can bet that if Square Enix is releasing their game on two systems, they'll put forth the effort necessary to make it shine on them both.Final Fantasy XI was released on THREE platforms, and it works wonderfully on all of them (Xbox 360, PS2, and PC...you don't get more varied than that).

The Sony guys who are upset over this are just being whiny bishez. What they're doing would be like me complaining that Half Life 2 was released on Xbox 360 as well as PC. Doesn't hurt me one bit as a PC gamer. It DOES make the game available to a lot more people, though. How on earth could I be upset about that.

The Sony whiners need to wake up and smell the coffee: the Square/Sony marriage ended a LONG time ago. FF games have been released on non-Sony platforms for years. Nothing new here.

Also, who's to say the 360 won't get the crappy end of a port? Hasn't FFXIII been in the works for some time now on PS3 hardware? Wouldn't that mean the 360 would get the port?

Man...combine bad Sony fans and bad Final Fantasy fans and you've got a special kind of stupid. (Please note, that is specifically directed at the BAD fans of both. Obviously most fans of both are not that way).

EDIT:My head is STILL reeling here. Just the idea that people are upset about a SQUARE game being ported because EA does it badly is cranium-melting. Seriously WTF? Man, I'd better not buy any sedans any time soon. Remember when Ford screwed up the Edsel? Geeze obviously sedans are a bad idea.

most people are upset bexause its the 360. anything else and i think it would probably be one of those 'huh' things. i dont really care because i dont play final fantasy. its gonna hurt sony i know that though. they better have a BIIIIIGGG anouncement tomorrow during their keynote.

you make a good point MoD, square releases nothing but excellent games as far as i'm concerned, atleast when it comes to final fantasy. the series being their crown jewel and all, i have high doubts that it will be shadily ported to either system. if i had to guess, i'd say that the main reason any bad ps3 fan is pissed off about this is they no longer have a "platform exclusive" to dangle in the 360's face while they start a never ending pissing contest that their platform is better and far superior...

WTH, has Square ever had a bad port? As far as I can remember, they go out of their way to make a port as good as it can be. They actually care about what they are doing, unlike the higher-ups at some of the consolidated development houses like EA.

The PC version of FFVII was pretty broken. It was basically just a Playstation emulator running the Playstation version, and it had it's share of issues.

This is HUGE news for MS. Personally, I don't care for RPGs so has little personal affect on my gaming, but it may bring out some long term benefits for the 360. It could be one more multiplatform that has better sales on the 360 than on the PS3. And one less reason for someone to buy a PS3, including myself as the GF loves the FF series and was probably planning to get a PS3 when it came out. Needless to say, she's stoked...

But it had 3DFX support which In my mind helped offset the butchered midi soundtrack and horrible video compression artifacts

I don't see how that makes any sense especially when in the MS press conference the President of Square Enix said that each platform it was releasing on would be developed separately.

At the square enix conference they revealed that they are working on the voiceover for the japanese version, after the japanese version is finished they will then begin 360 development. so for the US PS3 version they are already almost done, but the 360 they havnt begun yet.

I think they are more concerned with future products from Square-Enix, not the already finished FF 13.

Their concern is directed in the wrong direction. Sony developed the toolset that developers have to use. It's no one's fault but Sony's that the PS3 is harder to Dev for. Besides the PS3 isn't massively more capable than the 360. If the port sucks on the PS3 chances are it is because the original sucked to begin with.

Hmmm

Well it looks like they'll be released at the same time...

you are right...but I rather buy parts for my car than another system... If I had a PS3 right now and a 360, and both of them just released a game, I would always get the 360 version. Mainly because of my freinds list. It feels like you are never alone, even when you play single player games. I love the notifications when peeps log in.

I think Bmike means that his friends are on the 360 not the PS3, that would be my issue with multiplatform games too assuming I had a ps3.
